Powder measure baffles

Re: Powder measure baffles

the baffle is set in the middle to maintain somewhat equal downward pressure of the powder column to allow consistent cycling of the powder drop......but you gottah hold your tongue just so..........

Re: Powder measure baffles

"Do you use a powder baffle in your powder measure hopper?"

Yes. It's a simple rectangle of thin brass sheet metal, folded in the middle to make a sort of flattend "tent" that allows powder to slide off an around the baffle.

"Do you think it helps?"

It ain't magic but, yes, it helps.

"Is it sitting in the bottom of the hopper.."

Yes. I can see no mechanical advantage to placing it higher in the tube. Mine lies directly on top of the measure's body casting, corners are under the tube so it won't fall out when I empty the thing.

Re: Powder measure baffles

I use a large plastic funnel with a longish tube that sits about 2 1/2 inches above the bottom of the measure. That way I have a large powder reservoir with a constant pressure on the dispenser mechanism. JMHO

Re: Powder measure baffles

Bought a Redding BR30 in 1995 when I got serious about LR Precision. In 1998/99 when developing my .308 PSS, I found the old RCBS measure I had outfitted with a baffle threw more consistent loads than the BR-30. I put a mic adj screw set on the RCBS and a few years later sold the BR30.

The Dillon measure throws very consistent w/o a baffle. Have found that if I can get +/- .1 to .2gr in powder charge consistency there is no adverse effect on accuracy. Doing all the other things I do must compensate for the variation.
