Anyone know anything about smokeless powder storage laws? Is there a limit to amount of pounds stored at a residence? I was told to that if you didn't have it properly stored and you have a fire that you insurance could refuse your claim. Any ideas? The person I talked to built a wooded box using fire treated plywood and drywall. He was under the impression that you were limited to 50 pounds.

Thanks

Re: Powder storage laws

It's going to vary from State to State. Some are more stringent than NFPA.

That said, common sense should be used. If you have any powder or primers in storage follow good practices like isolating them from ignition sources. Even if not required to do so, break up the storage quantities, placing them in secure containers like the usually mentioned "3/4" Plywood Box with lid" that most states consider a suitable "Magazine". An old refrigerator is good too. If it works, and power is available, set it for about 45 degrees. That will "dehumidify" the air inside. If no power, just put a couple of large desiccant containers in with the supplies. The refrigerator will protect from outside ignition sources and the desiccant from moisture.
