A buddy swears by this powder, so I decided to try it.
It meters very well and groups as good as anything else I've tried. But Alliant does not publish pressure data for their powders/loads. I'm at the max of 25.1 with a 80gr Berger VLD, but I'm only seeing 2880 FPS. Max load of Varget gets me just over 3000, but I hate working with that stuff.
Has anyone here safely worked up a load that goes beyond that which is listed on Alliant's website?
I know one guy using 27.5gr under a 90gr Moly Berger VLD. It shoots great at 500 meters, but that load scares the crap out of me. I just want to get past 3000fps and I'll be happy.

Re: PP2000MR...anyone?

There is a pretty healthy thread thats been going for a while on 2000MR... but it focused almost entirely on use in .308 with 185-190gn bullets. One of the reasons I got interested in the powder myself was some of the obscene velocities I was hearing from a couple people using it for .223 Rem with 80-90gn bullets.

I've used it in a .308 Win with 185s with good initial results... but I'd have to tear something apart and put my .223 barrel back on again to do any testing with it in that caliber. Eventually...

TS,

With moly 80 Bergers at 2.555", I cannot get to 3kf/s and maintain accuracy. A 26" barrel gets the Bergers or JLKs to between 2900-50 using 26.3 and WSR primers. Work up to this, you may get pressure signs before I get them.

HTH,

How long is your barrel and how many grains of Varget are you using to get to 3000 ftps?

Why the focus on 3000 FPS? PP2000MR is my powder of choice for all the reasons you mention. Why don't you use one of the load development methods (OCW, ladder test, etc.) used by others on this site to find the charge weight and velocity that your gun like the best? 3000 FPS may not give you the best/most accurate results.

Re: PP2000MR...anyone?

+1 on 2000 mr as a big bullet powder. 175's & up. I've got a 22" bartlein and I'm pushing the 175 smk 2765 with 48.0. Fixing to work up a load with 2156 155 smk palmas. That will tell me real quick whether varget is better for smaller to medium bullets

What a pointless post. This is about .223.

Get a clue,

Doc B. I'm not gonna say what I want to say. Read the 2nd post

Re: PP2000MR...anyone?

I've shot it in both .308 and .223 but haven't found the accuracy that I wanted with a decent velocity. I did find accuracy nodes but it was at lower velocities than other powders I use.

I still have the remainder of a 8lb jug to play with this winter, hopefully will find something that works more to my satisfaction.
