My most recent completed project - https://www.ocabj.net/precision-rifle-project-series-defiance-machine-anti-lightweight-rifle-build/

Goal was a (relatively) lightweight rifle that is precise that can handle sustained strings of fire (compared to an off-the-shelf pencil barrelled rifle).

  • Defiance Machine anTI short action, .480" bolt face, nitride finish, Guardian cut
  • Proof Research carbon fiber wrapped barrel, 22" length, 1:8" twist, 6.5mm Creedmoor Defiance Pre-Fit
  • TriggerTech Special 2-Stage Pro Curve
  • MDT HNT26 chassis, Cobalt Green, Arca rail, non-folding
  • Area 419 Hellfire Match muzzle brake
  • Defiance Machine 20 MOA aluminum scope base
  • Spuhr SP-5001 35mm diameter, 30mm / 1.18" tall mount
  • Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44mm TREMOR3
  • RRS SOAR 240mm Universal Arca rail

6 lb 3 oz - rifle only

8 lb 6 oz - rifle with optic

8 lb 11 oz - rifle with optic + RRS arca rail (read the article on why I added this)

11 lb - fully configured rifle with MDT CKYE-POD triple pull

Berger 144 LRHT + 42.2 GR H4350 + Alpha Munitions SRP + CCI BR4 ~ 2695 fps give or take depending on temps.

I feel that you are missing out on the double benefits of arca that you could have by not using an arca-to-arca between the arca on your other arca there.
Imagine how much more handy it would be, if you could just extend your arca 8" for extra stability on your bipod.
Or even stacking a third arca rail under there (y)

All silliness aside, that's a pretty nice rifle you got there

Took the old 2002 Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STW out to the range today to give her some fresh air, since it's been a while since I heated up the bore... She did not disappoint. This rifle has always been a damn tack driver. This is one I'll never let go.

Ignore the blacked-out spot, someone shot my target before I could snap of pic of the group...

Do you use factory ammo or do you have some special recipe you don't mind sharing?

Sad thing is this great cartridge is hard to find beyond new old stock that pops up once in a while on GB or some random big box store that forgot some was left in the back all those years. I am guessing factory Nosler is the best there is assuming one can find any.

I agree, what a powerhouse of a round. But like so many really good ones, some new, some old, they just don’t make it with the folks handing over the dollars.

The "Christmas tree rifle"....for obvious reason. I as building it in my shop for myself and a buddy came by and pronounced that he wanted it. It is a chrome molly 700, old BDL action that has been trued and squared, faced, threads cut .010 over, lugs lapped to 100%, .250 recoil lug faced square on a surface grinder. Hard Chromed with a satin finish by Accurate Plating, 1-8 twist SS Magnum Sporter 26" factory fluted barrel by Lothar Walther, recessed target crown, minimum head-spaced to just barely scrape the cartridge base as the bolt handle comes down fully, a 50 BMG rifle blank that I cut for the 700 SA, with a thumb hole, then the action and bottom metal was 100% glass beded with the barrel free floated. Trigger is a Kipplinger of Austria single set 4oz-3lb, Scope is a Hakko of Japan. shoots .1" at 100 with 120 SMKs .003 off and H-414, deadly on crows in a new emerging corn, field, at 500 yards.

I put an actual scope click scale adjustment from a ballistics calculator on the front bell to 800 in 25 yard increments for him.

Is this blasphemy to put a $300 Magpul stock on a $2,500 @christensenarms Ridgeline FFT? 😂

I have a few of these SA Hunter stocks sitting around after putting chassis on a few rifles, so I figured why not? I wasn’t really happy with the factory FFT stock and the $300 Christensen AICS bottom metal I bought for the FFT stock has so much rattle and slop in the magwell, that I almost want a refund for buying it, so I thought I’d give the Magpul a try. 🤷🏼

I must admit, it’s still extremely lightweight, maneuverable, uses AICS mags, and has a full 1-piece aluminum skeleton & bed block in it…. We’re gonna see how she shoots at the range this weekend. If it maintains my sub-1/2 MOA accuracy, it might end up on there for hunting season this year. 👍🏼

Bought a few of the new Aero SOLUS chassis’ for a couple of my target 700 rifles. I’m impressed. I did change the grips immediately, and added the NV/TCO attachment at the front of the handguard, but so far I really like these! Tool-less adjustments, and nice fit and finish. Has a full ARCA rail built into the handguard. QD swivels. M-LOK slots. Bag rider. All come standard on it. I will buy more in the future, especially if they make a long-action version.

Just a heads-up, but you will have to file-down and re-tap the captured Solus front action screw that comes pre-installed in the chassis when using these with 700 actions. It’s a bit too long, and touches the lugs and binds the bolt. Once you file it down about 1/16”, it works perfectly. 👍🏼

Update for my T3X CTR.

Selfmade shooting bag with QD mounts and buckle strap. Customized rails with QD cup and drilled stock to fit the QD points.

Very solid rest, extremely light.. about 125gramm due to styrofoam filling.

Also assists perfectly while shooting standing up, due to greater concact surface to my hand.

Maybe I will do an improved Mark2 if this turns out good while hunting.

Last update on this rifle as I'm finally done moving shit around. Kgm R30 finally cleared, I painted it with alumahyde and tossed a rearden atlas ti on it. 13.8oz mounted, and sound is pretty good. Jury is out on if the ports work to reduce recoil or not, the can is a bit heavier than I'd want for a 7" ish suppressor, but overall I think it was a good buy.
