Wanting to build my gf a nice coyote AR15. Wanting to get some recommendations on good quality barrel and length. Will be shooting out to 400 yards or so. Maybe more. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks

Figure out how much you want the rifle to weigh and let that dictate your barrel specs. Then call Frank and have him spin you up a Krieger or Barty to those specs. 18 inches should be plenty for your stated goals. You won't find a better barrel.

I’ve tried a lot of stuff over the years. 6.8 spc, 6.5 Grendel, .204, .243, .223, and 12ga. A few different types of firearms too. Rem 700, Savage Police Sniper, AR-15, AR-10, 11-87, and ACR.

Rem 700- great rifle. Slow for follow ups. Unwieldy. Have to be a gunsmith to make real modifications.

Savage - same as above except the aftermarket sucks.

AR-10 - used in 243 With an 18” barrel. Shooting 55-75gr ballistic tips this thing was devastating. Like a laser out to like 400 with the proper zero. One of my favorite setups ever. Was a little heavy and long but doable. Once I started using a suppressor it was for sure too long and heavy.

12ga - I tried carrying one in addition to a rifle. Just too much crap to carry on a stand.

AR-15 - I’ve tried different calibers (Grendel, SPC, 223, and 204). Also 16-24” barrels. I’ve finally circled around to just a regular 223 with a 16” barrel and a suppressor. Like a total nerd one season I kept detailed notes on our sets. Duration, length, time sat, time sat before we saw a coyote, number of coyotes called in and shot, and how far the shots were. What I learned is that about 75% of the killed coyotes were less than 100 yards. Of those about 75% were under 50. At those distances a 223 through a 16” barrel is great. I also quit bringing a shotgun so I could simplify things a bit. At 100 yards or less those 55gr vmax bullets are about as good as it gets. Not many spinners or runners for Murph to clean up. I’ve also gone to a Nightforce 2.5-10 with a more fine reticle. This year I’m trying out a USO 1.7-10. It’s more fun to work the coyotes in for a closer shot. It also gives you a better chance at your coyotes buddies that are always (and I mean always) lurking behind cover. It also lets Murph get involved. So after all that...
AR15, high end 16” barrel, nice trigger, suppressor. Skip the bull barrel too. Here’s some pics for you of a couple of the coyote rifles I use.

Here's my purchased new '92 Olympic Arms Ultramatch with a new Compass Lake 20" 1:7.7 Krieger. Estimated 16k rounds through the OEM barrel, the CLE Krieger looks like it will carry one the tradition. For Coyotes acting like heat seeking missiles to the call I have a 1911.

It’s hard to beat a regular old 18” SPR type setup for that use. The Proof SS AR barrels fucking hammer too. Best bang for the buck for a top tier cut rifled barrel out there too. You can get them for under $400. I’m not sure if you could actually beat one, but to match it you’d be spending $600+ for CLE, Craddock, or someone else to make you one from an equal quality cut rifled blank.

My experiences are very similar. Of course, yote hunting in the southeast is generally a close range affair. My present coyote gun is a CLE Krieger barreled 13.9 inch pistol sporting an SBA3 brace and a 1-8 Nightforce NX8.

18” White Oak SPR barrel

This is an upper I picked up on here a while back. Shoots great with the 55 Fiocchi ammo I ran through it so far. Want to test some heavier stuff as the previous owner had some very good groups with the 69-77 grain stuff.

Unfortunately I just don’t coyote hunt like I’d like to. Mostly due to all the other shooting I currently do, so not such a bad thing

I can say it’s, very well balanced (suppressor adds some front end weight to it) and the magpul stock is a nice addition as it doesn’t grab your beard while you shoot. This is set up for day optics but will be a primary host for thermal eventually.
