Any benefit to having a gunsmith have your action in hand to cut barrel and install over installing a prefit barrel yourself if you have the tools and know how?
@Lowlight
@bohem

Looking to buy a Axiom prefit from PVA to install myself. Josh did my 6.5cm HH barrel but that was before PVA was cutting Axiom prefits.

I would say "no", when dealing with a factory action and no "truing" or "blueprinting" to the receiver threads or bolt raceway.

I think most would agree that there's no demonstrable difference in accuracy between using a nutted barrel, vs. a gunsmith's shouldered barrel.

JMO, YMMV.

In truth, if the smith cuts your barrel threads to your action (make a cut then test fit, again and again) you are going to end up with a tighter more precise barrel to action fit. The same holds true for headspace.

Whether or not this negatively impacts accuracy......up to you? Also, if it does affect accuracy.....how much? Also, is the affected amount worth not being able to just buy a finished barrel?

You are the only one who can answer that. I have turned out prefits that customers send me pics of that shoot as good as "matched" barrels.

Would that awesome prefit shoot better as a "matched" barrel? Maybe.....maybe the same?

I can't speak for "nutted" prefit barrels, I have only done shouldered prefits.
