When I am reloading my rcbs comp. dies leave a small ring on the bullet. I figured since its pretty light in nature and its not messing up the tip that it would still be g2g. This shouldnt affect accuracy right?

Re: Press rings

Chances are it will be OK. Unless you are shooting 600 yards or more. You can take the die apart and polish the seater stem cup so it doesn't leave a mark. But you also need to check and see if you have a crimp set in the die. A roll crimp will increase the neck tension a lot. All you have to do to get rid of the crimp is back it up until the brass doesn't turn in toward the mouth.

Re: Press rings

its the seater. Mine was doing the same thing on my 223 and i took the seater stem out and the edges on the seater cup were extremely sharp, i took some 000 steel wool and put it on a brass brush and chucked it in a drill and polished the seater cup edges and it alleviated the problem

Re: Press rings

Or you can use some lapping compound. Chuck up the seater stem in a drill and use the lapping compound on the bullets.

Re: Press rings

Thanks for the responses guys, I will check it out and give the lapping compound a try since i have that on hand. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that it is extremely easy to seat the bullet in the case. I am using the RCBS comp dies...pretty nice I think.
