Pretty new at all this, so be gentle.
I am "building" an M40A5 and have collected all the parts from the lists that I have found elsewhere in the forums. My only difference is that I will be putting a different scope on the DDRoss base.
I have bought all the parts new as I plan on not needing another rifle for the rest of my life.
My question is how much is the gunsmithing going to cost to get everything put together? I know it varies from place to place, I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate. Also, I bought the barrel from Schneider in AZ, is it already GTG? It needs to be cut and threaded obv, but do they come already crowned and whatnot?
Thanks in advance for your input!

P.S. Anyone know of a good smith in the Denver area that can do the work?

pay for the name is my advise it will hold value and somewhere around $1200 up but it will be worth it. Dustin

Cool, I have to wait until monday to call GAP and see how much it'll be, but so far buying all the parts separate is turning out to be way cheaper than buying the full gun straight from GAP!

Re: Price on smithing everything for an M40A5?

Depends on who does it obviously.

Honestly, GAP will do the best job I think. But may take a while and charge the most. They will have it come out the closest to the real thing. There may be small details about the manufacturing process that GAP is aware of that I and a few others are not. I dunno maybe not.

Mark at SAC will do a fantastic job, but may also take a while as he may be backed up.

If you have all the parts on hand, we can have it done for you in about two months from now. And we wouldn't need the parts until next month.

A rough quote from our pricelist would be $1000. Things like putting on a night vision mount or flash hider would bring it up a little. That price includes full Cerakote and opening the base holes to 8-40 re-aligned to bore. We would guarantee half minute with Black Hills ammo.

Work would be done by me and at Phoenix Custom Rifles. The website will be up within one week. www.phoenixcustomrifles.com

Good luck with the project.
Should be a sweet rifle.

Not trying to bust anyones balls, but don't forget you have to mod the action for the base, turn the barrel down for and time the surefire break, and Schnieder barrels come rough turned only and will need to be polished before blasting and finish. GAP charges $225 just for the action mod to accept the base. Not trying to knock anyone out of the work, just be sure of all that needs to be done to build a M40-A5 clone.

Thats what Im saying about having it made into a real clone, or not.
GAP would be my builder for a as real as possible M40Ax build.

But personally I wouldn't want every little detail an M40Ax has. No NV mount, no flash hider, and no clip slot or action/rail mod.

So OP, do you want a clone built or a "for all intense purposes it looks like an M40A5" built? The price between the two might be 75%+

Re: Price on smithing everything for an M40A5?

I saw where he says he has a DD Ross base, that's where I got the feeling he wanted as close to the real thing as you could get considering the action needs to be modified for it. Good luck on your build.
