I am no fan of unions or their bogus claims that the only reason I get to take time off, have benefits blah blah is because they are still around to protect me (someone who's never been in a union...) but not even I would have believed this ...

This unfortunately, is entirely believable. My first job was as a teamster working for the county. The money and time they threw away never ceased to amaze me.
