Pistol grip is a Magpul MIAD so it has adjustable swells front and back.

It closed with 0.0002 of an inch of movement on the go gauge, Good enough for me, I will adjust the brass to suit the chamber.
A fresh batch of bertram brass turned up today thanks to allthingsshooting.com.au

Re: Project 375 ST

There's not much room for massaging the weight down, the price you pay for having a 5kg barrel scope is another 1 kg, add bases rings and a muzzle break and it's 8 kg without a stock. I could have run a smaller slimmer barrel, no one likes small things, plus it would restrict your range a km or two

Re: Project 375 ST

Fired the first shots out of it over Xmas. Just fire forming a few cases so I can work on a load with the 350 grain preditors.
My fire forming load was 132 grains of 2225 behind the Sierra 300 grain game kings.
It has a rather nice recoil ( my opinion ) No one else liked it, maybe because the scope wacked them every time it does drive the shoulder back a good 8-10 inches or more, shooting off a bench, I fired the first shots prone position and it was'nt as bad as I was expecting, it has a nice big smooth recoil.
After I have a few more cases fire formed I am thinking 138 grains behind the 350 Preditors and 142 grains behind the 300 SGK's.
I have a chrony on hand also so I will be checking speeds.

Re: Project 375 ST

I then fitted the muzzle break and Its now a little disappointing to shoot . It has really tamed it down and reduced most of the recoil. It no longer drives you back a foot whilst trying to put the scope through your safety glasses.
The first two shots I put into a tree at 100m with less than a 1/4" between the holes so its looking promising. Its about 4 " high at 100m with the scope topped out for closest range and using the 10 moa high cross hairs.

It has a good concussion wave coming back off it now also giving bystanders a nice slap in the face. Due to the back vented brake.

Re: Project 375 ST

Well after a few fire forming shots I Pulled two cases apart that did not go off in the 375, which I first thought had DUD primers that did not go off. However when I tipped the powder out( dug out actually) there was a fair amout of burnt powder in the two cases, the primers had ignited and seemed to have burnt a fair amount of powder. I was running CCI Magnum primers, I was also using brand new powder ADI AR 2225 straight from the container with no chances of contamination.
My brother fired a few shots from the rifle and was convinced there was a delayed firing after the pin struck with a few shots he fired of a few micro seconds, This was noted before the miss fires.
I then switched to the hotter primers Federal GM215M, and continued shooting, The miss fire and hang fire problem has not returned.

Re: Project 375 ST

The next day I put a few downrange at 300 yards with my fire forming loads of 132 grains of 2225 behind a 300 grain sierra (SGK) I ran them all over the chrony, velocities were consistant with all 9 shots falling between 3129 FPS and 3109 FPS only a 20 FPS variation. After a good cleaning of the barrel the first four shots sprayed around on the target a bit. The next 5 shots fell in a 2 inch group.

Re: Project 375 ST

I took the 350 grain preditors up to 3400fps this arvo with 139 grains 2225, pressure started to show a little high, I backed it off to 137 grains at 3225fps and shot a 6 round group at 300 yards around 1 3/4" centre to centre. Not to bad could be better though conditions weren't the best. I was quite happy and impressed with the results so far. And as the sun rapidly set on the last day I let rip onto the neighbours hill some 1300-1500 yards away at a few different elervations. All previous shots were at 300yds so I took a measurement of were the bullet impact was in relation to my cross hairs, 60" high which by all calculations put my zero at 1100yards and I entered all my data into my two ballistic computers both results were very close, I ranged the marauding tussock grass at 1400 yards with the bushnell 1600 arc put that into the computers and got hold over and drift info for the shot. I laid down behind her and send one 350 grain preditor smack bang through the deadly tussock grass lurking on the hill, at this stage I had a big smirk from ear to ear so I culled a few more shrubs with the few rounds I had with me.

The last two weeks I was there had very bad shooting conditions with Gail force winds and rain, so I didn't get all the shooting I wanted in.
I did take the 350 grain Preditors to just under 3600 Fps but decided to back it off a bit as I was getting more velocity variation than I wanted. 137 grains had good consistancy with velocities on average of 2275 FPS with no more than +/- 10 fps.

Re: Project 375 ST

G'day Sierra, I wish, work has me on a 1 hour notice to move at the moment, for the current hourly postponed Exercise and possible disaster relief due to the wild weather up this way.
I dont want to get it half done then have to do the urgent bolt.

Re: Project 375 ST

As a nice tease I took some pics looking down range off my parents lawn that would cream a few stalkers pants, pitty that I couldn't pull the trigger, not in my place just over our boundary, I took some through the bushnell rangefinders as well, please excuse picture quality as it was taken through scope and binos with my phone, thanks to the help of an esky and my sister for holding the rifle.

Re: Project 375 ST

I forgot you were up there, heard it was a bit wild lastnight.

I guess your getting sick of the rubber duck weather too.

Re: Project 375 ST

Very nice, I love these full custom threads. What made you choose to go your own route rather than get a "standard" 375CT? What advantages are you looking for/finding?

As for the deer, it's always easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Re: Project 375 ST

I prefer the characteristics of the snipetac and the aggressive look of the ST round Vs the Cheytac, and it can drive that little bit harder. I can shoot cheytac through it as I do to fire form the brass,
Its not worth the risk with the deer not with that bloke, any of my other neighbours would not give a dam.
