This is pretty much my basic load out for most matches, the only that might change is the magazines and how I carry ammo. I've also started to use the Fat Bag less and the ARCA adapter in the bottom right is no longer used.

Starting in the top left and moving right....

    First aid kit
    Sunscreen
    Tape on a rope
    Sharpies
    AI Mags

I don’t shot PRS matches but I have the shit to do so. Gonna give it a whirl next year after shooting the Sporting rifle match in Raton this year.

I'm tempted to get a spare bolt and need to get a spare trigger, put together a small tool kit to fix shit at the range, maybe some extra small hardware. I haven't had a failure yet but I'd rather stay in front of it. At any rate, I like to keep it simple and light. I cringe watching folks move 70lb of shit from stage to stage just to use a rifle and a bag. To each his own. :)

I did a pack dump before a regional match a couple weeks ago, coincidental timing. I don’t like carrying too much shit, and even this is still more than I really need.

@todd: That seems like a more realistic load-out ... I'm guessing some guys are forgetting all of the things they actually carry.

What size pack are you running to fit this in?

Not being experienced in this - I have a question about a couple of items I didn't see on the lists - unless I missed 'em.

First, anyone carry stuff for cleaning/lubing bolts & actions?
Second, how about rifle covers to protect bolts, actions, scopes? Like THIS one.

The reason I ask is two of the matches (the only two) I've been to my rifle spends most of the time on the bipod on the ground and with the wind it gets pretty gritty - to the point of not functioning properly (Bergara 6.5cm).

I keep a cleaning rod, lube, spare parts and fix it stick kit in my rifle case at the truck. Unless Im out west or don't have access to park, there isn't a reason to lug the extra weight around.

    I like my Cole-Tac covers

I carry bolt grease and the tools to tear the bolt down.

I just ordered this cover after looking at several different ones…

I lube my rifle before I go and have AAD Mount scope covers. My experience with inclement conditions is that rain and dust don't matter to the action if you have safe powder charges and good magazines. Rain only really matters on the occular lens of your scope. The front lens has to be pretty obliterated to start causing clarity issues, but every little baby droplet of water on the occular is a blurry spot. You can try to cover the whole rifle but any time I've been out in rain I completely disassemble the rifle anyway. You'd be amazed how many times I've found water in the barrel threads, under scope bases, etc...

Mud will fuck up magazines in a hurry. Best to avoid it at all costs and do your best to keep it out of magazines or clean it out. Any rag, shirt sleeve, etc.. will work for that, though.

I've never needed a cleaning rod personally but keeping one in the vehicle might not be a bad idea.

How are you guys packing your shooting bags (game changers, udders, rear bags)? Just tossing into the bottom of your pack? Strapped to the outside?

I tried a few options using my hunting backpack, but nothing that felt balanced and secure while also being easy to get to for every stage. May just be my particular pack though.

    @randomone
Hey man, this is what I use to protect the rifle in the box or between stages.

How are you guys packing your shooting bags (game changers, udders, rear bags)? Just tossing into the bottom of your pack? Strapped to the outside?

On my way to and from matches, my Gamechanger fits inside my little pack (pictured above). On top of my ammo box in the main compartment. During matches, my bag lives on my rock hammock on my tripod, 1) to anchor the tripod, 2) to remain accessible between stages, 3) to distribute weight between pack and tripod, and 4) save time packing it in and out of my bag.

When I used a full sized Fortune Cookie or OG Gamechanger, I strapped it on top of my bag with the compression straps en route to and from matches, and same deal, carried it on my rock hammock between stages.

I do carry a Pump Pillow to some matches, just to sit or kneel on between stages, and I clip it to the outside of my pack so it’s always out and ready on the ground beside my bag. It swings a bit behind me when walking, but it works.

I keep a laminated checklist of all of the crap that goes to a rifle match. Somehow I always forget something. It never amazes me at the amount of crap that I am lugging around. Even more amazing that it all gets used.

Looking at buying a smaller pack as my Eberlestock X1e just seems way to big, the bandit seems like a good size but the website has conflicting infor saying its both 1300 and 935 Cu In.

It fits everything I need with some room to spare. I've had a bigger backpack. I've had an even smaller backpack. The one thing that actually takes up a significant amount of space and isn't as compact as I thought, is the Sunrise Tactical rifle cover. It's hard for me to take it out because some places I shoot can be super dusty at one stage and others grassy or not dusty. At this point I can't justify getting a tripod, so a larger pack to haul that around isn't necessary yet.
