PRS oriented stock design

Excellent choice of clamping system for the LOP and Adjustable Cheek Rest! ;)

.
Was playing around with loggerhead clamp design on the mockup, but its taking too much real estate (LOP top rod is hitting cheek hardware) as the stock is shorter than most stocks and the cheek rest a bit more rearward than most stock out there.

My default mechanism with 2part clamp used in number of my stocks

Tried Loggerhead in both cheek and LOP as is much shorter , but unfortunately still interferes with LOP too much so a more compact design will need to be made to increase the LOP adjustment range

At some stage you hit the limits of 3d design particularly when it comes to ergonomics, so we did some 6 or 7 new thumb shelf and tang area design iterations, including a bunch molded in plasticine to get the right feel for the shape

Had some friends over that design and build low-vibration carbon fiber arms for industrial robots etc took some of their input into how best to manage vibration dampening.

Structurally better grip area that also feels better, the removable grip insert was also reshaped to increase the stiffness of the whole section. Ultimately swappable grip shapes and sizes are nice to have but should not compromise the design elsewhere. Rigidity is key.

Fingers crossed this is near final only small details to work out.

Looks like prototype tooling for the rimfire stock might get machined over the weekend.

Meanwhile, CZ opened up their databank of interface data and CAD files that should help aftermarket developers, its great that a firearms manufacturer finally did that ,but still some more files would be great and in English so folks know what is what without opening every file.

So with the inlet available i can do CZ457 stock variant rather quickly

Some render tryouts for new forged carbon pattern

Interested to see the finished product here... There is such an overwhelming demand for stocks, especially for PRS. I personally am not a chassis guy and clearly I'm not the only one that prefers the feel of a more traditional stock. Hope this project goes well for you, it could be the start of something great

The Anschutz model is kinda for personal use and i think A64 is already discontinued, its also a bit of a mule to test some build options, but soon after a Rem700 model will be made for serial production while this design might end out being recycled for CZ457 and Anschutz 54:18

Dabling a bit around the forend bridge design, while working on the stock mould. Bridge It will be compression molded out of carbon fiber as well. If all goes well first stock should be laminated next week .Hope metal parts get done soon.

A tiny update , still waiting for my Bergara barrelled action to act as a mule for Rem700 , so work is only moving on Anschutz stock

First molding happened but unfortunately suffered a technical malfunction during the process so part was scraped, after minor repair now rewaxing the tool for second molding thankfully the damage to the tooling was minimal but still given its made out of MDF its extremely sensitive to dimwit's like me doing stupid shit . Should be up for molding again in about a week .

Metal bits came in , some work left to prep them and Cerkote them , Arca rails are tool steel , M-lok and QD rail are stainless steel.

In general, i wanted the arca rail to be as stiff as possible was looking at least something like 4140 or stiffer

In the end, it will likely not make much of a difference anywhere but still will likely use at least 4140 for rails in the future, as these rails do overhang the stock so should be as stiff as possible. That is also the reason why i am avoiding use of Arca rails with pockets for brass weights
