Hey folks, thought I'd post what I learned about Prvi PPU brass and see if it's in line with what other's have experienced.

I took about 300-400 once fired PPU 308 brass that was original factory loaded with 147gr FMJ and prepped it.

The brass was cleaned, full length resized, primer removed, cleaned again, trimmed to SAAMI length, neck deburred, flash hole deburred, primer pocket cleaned.

I then weighed the brass into lots and the variance in weight is HUGE. I'm pretty certain the loaded factory ammo is all from the same lot but wow!

The lightest piece of brass came in at 163gr and the heaviest at 177gr.

About 30% of the brass came in at 167-169gr and another 30% came in at 172-174gr with the remaining 40% all over the place in weight.

I bring this up because, some folks say this brass is not as good as Lapua but supposedly pretty consistent... and comparable to LC.

With a 14 grain variance, I have a hard time calling this consistent brass.

Anyhow, just thought I'd post this as a piece of knowledge to store up in your brain.

Anyone find different results from what I found? Maybe I had a bad batch or something? I have another 700 pieces I need to prep... but sheesh. This is a very different experience from my FC and LC brass that have a variance of 4- 5 grains at most.

Have you tried their 'match' brass? I've only ever bought two boxes of their match ammo, which has a different headstamp 'PPU 308 MATCH' I believe. I didn't hang on to it, but that might be the brass that people are referring to for consistency.

Edit: NVM, that was different brass I was thinking of, PPU doesn't actually have a 'match' headstamp, just 'match' ammo.

That sounds about right, it ain't Lapua! I probably would not take it to a match, but shoot it and see how it does! With the current shortages, any brass deserves a chance. Lightman
