My 5 mo old puppy Boy Dog followed me to the barn today for a little clean up session. His dam is half yellow lab and half German shepherd. The sire is black lab. He looks like a black lab with the German shepherd markings. Beautiful pup. Smart, too. He's a little smarter now, since he found the stink bug. I had never seen the effect those bugs can have until today.
I moved a piece of lumber, and a couple of bugs was under it. Like any curious pup, Boy went after it to investigate this odd critter. He pawed it, and snuffled it,his ears up in anticipation, but not anticipating what came next. Apparently, those bugs have a spray they use when threatened. It used it on Boy. At first, he just drew back with a quizzical look, then he whimpered a little, then he started shaking his head like he had something hanging on his nose. Then he started rubbing his nose in the sand, then his whole head. He started shaking all over and rolling around violently, as though he was having some kind of fit. He suddenly went limp with all four in the air, and I thought he was unconscious. He lay like that for a few seconds, got up, shook off the sand, and started looking for some other trouble to get into. LMAO the whole time....

Re: Puppy's first stink bug

I had a Shetland Sheepdog puppy that stuck his nose in a Fire ant hill in Georgia - man did he get a rude awakening. I got to pay for the vet visit...it was funny but costly.

Reminds me of the time my beagle fetched a big ass toad out of the yard. His mouth was foaming and he was puking when he brought it back, but at least he learned not to fuck around with frogs again.

Re: Puppy's first stink bug

I had a black lab puppy once find a yellow jacket nest. They couldn't really sting him because of his thick fur but they were tagging him as best they could.

It was kind of funny until he brought the whole swarm over to where we were standing.

That's when all hell broke loose.
