Night Vision Pvs 26?

I compared my PVS 26 to several CNVD-LR units looking to trade it in, but my 26 was better.

The Caveat, it was David Tubbs unit and was taken back by Reed Knight and upgraded to what I would say is a PVS-30, but there are some downsides.

You can't reach the focus from behind the rifle like a CNVD unit, and it's really heavy. It's also more expensive because it is KAC.

I like KAC, but the benefits of the CNVD-LR always has me looking to go in that direction. I think for the casual user, the LR is a better deal.

I have used both and I will say that I like the PVS 26 Knights slightly better. That extra weight is the well made construction and reliability of Knights built NV or thermal.
Not to say that the CNVD-LR is bad. Functionality wise it has its advantages.
Cost wise....CNVD-LR cheaper. However....Knights.....just has better resale value and built to last.

Looking for PVS-26 tube info

I used both and went with KAC. I was told by an old Capt of mine I could F@ck up a steel ball so I figured I better go with the heavy duty one! I wish it was lighter but it's not!!

Recently bought a used Knights PVS-26. When attached in front of day optic, it works fine until the gain is increased to 50% and above. Then the scintillation is so bad that it obscures the target and make an ID difficult or impossible. Is this normal?
Out here to hog hunt, it is very dark and requires most or all of available gain.
Seller said it was a Gen 3 pinnacle tube. No tube data sheet included. Can anyone help? Thanks.

It sounds like you just happen to have a high signal to noise tube. Knights was usually pretty good about their tube selection but it sounds like a low SNR tube got through. Is it that typical super smooth green of ITT yesteryear? Before the Excellis change over and down size? May I suggest an Illuminator? This will help if you want to run higher magnifications in extremely low light!

What day optic and what mag are you trying to run it at? I would back down on mag if you can. It usually helps scintillation appearance.

Yes that does help. When we get tubes in the 35 and up SNR with 81 LPM (and up) that aren't Faberge Egg delicate, clip ons will really shine! remember with any clip on your putting the tubes screen under a Microscope so EVERY imperfection is hugely apparent.

I've run mine up to 20 power and it works great. Must be something wrong with the tube. I haven't had to crank up the gain but I also run some IR with it. Don't have too but it's nice to have the extra IR light.
