After reading DMack's Mk214 thread and knowing the reputation of GAP, I'm trying to see which I could go for my AR platform...

I read all the good stuff about the MK214 and would like to hear some things about the GAP and perhaps if anyone has used both, a comparison if you will.

Re: PWS MK214 or GAP10

I shot DMack's 214 side-by-side with my GAP10 and I'd say it depends on what you want. If I were looking for a 7.62 auto that I had to hump for any distance in poor conditions with minimal logistical support I'd take the 214. It's very light and "tossable". That said, the 214 is not a pricision rig but it will easily make minute-of-man hits to 850. In fact I almost couldn't miss with it. As with all PWS rigs they're very dirt tolerant.

The GAP10 on the other hand is truly a precision auto. There may be equals out there but I seriously doubt there's any that could be called "better". I've placed top 3 in matches several times against bolt guns with it which is really saying a lot. It is a big heavy beast as are all precision AR10 platform rifles but it's fairly tossable given it's weight/size. After more than 2800 rounds through mine the only issue I ever had was a broken extractor, but that's pretty common on AR10's if you actually shoot them enough.

You've narrowed it down to two very different, but excellent choices. The only reason I don't have a 214 is that I really don't have a use for it. I'd re-think that if I were to ever take up hog or terrorist hunting though.

Based on your experience what makes the pws preferred for battle ready? I don't see anything as to why gap10 couldn't do that too
It's gonna be a very hard decision. I can tell...

I'll talk to dmack and see if i can shoot it one of these days.

How would you compare the recoil difference? I believe pws has something that takes the recoil in the buffer tube?

Eh..."Battle ready" is in the eye of the beholder and everyone has a different definition. As a combat rifle I'd give the PWS the edge for several reasons but remember...this is just how I see it...

-Felt recoil is very different on the PWS making follow-up shots easier. Short barrel, good break, and piston design all likely have a hand in this.
-Weight...the PWS is very light and the short barrel makes it feel lighter than it is. As such it can also be used as an entry weapon if over-penetration isn't a concern.
-dirt tolerant...run it hard, run it dirty, and it will run

I'd feel comfortable with a GAP10 in combat, I just wouldn't want to have to charge hallways with it. If superior accuracy/consistency from an auto was my goal I'd take the GAP10 hands down. Given your needs, maybe a GAP10 with a short (maybe 16") barrel may be best. Just ditch the PRS stock (it's heavy) to help get the weight down. The beauty of a GA rig is that building exactly to your specs is what they excel at.

Tough choice. Try to shoot them both.

Re: PWS MK214 or GAP10

I will make a trip up to you guys when I'm ready to pull the trigger on one. It's a hefty investment for me so I'd like to take my time deciding.

I found out gap10 has a 2-4 month build time and pws can be found online. I don't like to wait... But i will for the right rifle.

Hopefully my bonus comes in soon to let me get one of these works of art

I hear gap10 has an exceptional quality outside ad well. How is the pws on that aspect?

Also fwiw, i dont sell my rifles if they are one of a kind in my inventory. That being said, there is a possibility in the near future this could be a srt rifle for tzone shots. It's a long ways ahead for me, but would have it's intended purpose down the road. But like I said, that's a few years ahead for me.

Re: PWS MK214 or GAP10

Quality is about equal on both judging by my MK114 vs G10 but barrel quality/accuracy is where GAP is famous. You can literally feel the difference when you run a patch through a GAP-cut barrel...pure magic.

Does the Gap-10 have ambi controls? (pics show that it does, but not 100%) I'm a lefty so...

also, it looks like the '12 models have adjustable gas block by noveske? sweet!

the surefire brake looks like the obvious choice as well
