Q: Bushmaster ACR or Jense Precision CF AR-15?

I'm kind of on the fence about getting one or the other. I read on KK Jense's website that his CF wrapped AR-15's are really accurate. Yet the change barrel system and gas piston of the Bushmaster ACR also beckons to me. I would love to have a CF barrel made for it.

So, what would be the best route to take? Has anyone here shot some of the prototype Bushmaster ACR and have experience with its accuracy? Would a CF wrapped barrel improve it?

Thoughts?

If their website is to be believed, middle of this year. Plus their holding company is doing an IPO so I imagine they would want sexy products to sell the stock.

I just spoke to the owner of a local gun store, and he said that his store had already placed there pre order for the ACR. While he didn't have a date for when the rifles would ship, he did say that they would likely be shipping sometime soon after SHOT when its supposedly going to be officially released.

Was there a price in the preorder or just a name list?

The ACR is vaporware. Bushmaster has no intention of releasing it. If so, then it would have been released by mid-2009 like they said it would be. They merely bought the rights for it so Magpul would not release a rifle that would take some of their customer base.

He simply said that his store had preorderd the guns, and there was no list that customers could put their name on at the time. As far as cost, I spoke to a very helpful individual at Bushmaster several weeks ago and he informed me that the MSRP for the railed version of the gun would be somewhere around 2400 dollars, he also said that they were going to produce large numbers of the guns to aviod premiums being placed on them due to limited availability, such as the case was when the SCAR was released. How true all of this was I am not sure, however I was led to believe that the gun was indeed going to be released sometime before the end of the first quarter of the year.

Wasn't that SHOT show 2008 when they said they were going to release it?

From what I have been led to understand Bushmaster is owned and operated by Remington, and therefore Bushmaster will be building all of the ACRs regardless to weather or not their name or Remingtons is on the firearm.

Oh ok but regardless both companies are under the same management and I believe that the AR products that Remington markets are produced by Bushmaster, but I could be wrong.

Last I heard Remington was doing the .mil side and Bushmaster the civi side of the ACR. As to why they have been so long in coming out and when they will become available, only Remington, Bushmaster and Magpul know that. I was at a vendor display back in Dec where it was being displayed, along with their new bolt rifles, as new products but no concrete timeframe.

As to the accuracy vs. a precision AR, only time will tell. I believe LL was impressed by the Massoud, the .308 illiteration of the ACR, but that may or may not be directly comparable.
