For you OBR guys,

I was shooting with a friend of mine the other day who is running the 16" OBR and it was very rough on the case head (very deep, sharp marks from the ejector) We switched the gas port selector to suppressed, same issue. It shoots fine, just makes the brass unusable for reloading.

We shot Federal Match 168's, 175's, Hornady Superformance 175's, BVA 175's, Black Hills 175's, Black Hills 168's
Handloads from 42 grains of Varget to 44.8 grains and it was the same marks on the brass, did not matter what load he was shooting. We tried loads with Winchester brass, Federal brass and Lapua brass, ejector was tearing the brass up no matter what we shot, no matter what the charge weight....

I was shooting the same loads out of a GAP AR-10 20" and did not have this issue with any of the factory loads or hand loads up to 44.2 grains of Varget.

Have any of you guys run into this?
What did you do to fix it?

P.S. - Let's not turn this into a bash-a-thon on LaRue or a GAP is better than LaRue Thread.... I am just looking for a solution to fix the problem..

Re: Question for Larue OBR owners..

I have not personally had this issue with mine and I have shot a lot of buddies OBR's also and same thing.

Re: Question for Larue OBR owners..

Ejector or Extractor?
Ejector would tear up the head and extractor would tear up the rim.
Either way, sounds like you need to look for sharp edges.

Re: Question for Larue OBR owners..

Thanks Dr. Phil..

It is the ejector.... the case head has a deep gouge in it.

I don't have a piece of brass in front of me, or I would post a photo. Just picture a very, very, very deep ejector swipe.

Re: Question for Larue OBR owners..

I have a 16" OBR. I have not experienced the problem you have be it with factory 168 GMM or reloads. As to what it causing it, I'd be out of my lane and driving on the sidewalk trying to diagnose same.

I suggest that you contact LaRue and speak with them. I have found their CS second to none.

Good luck!

Joe

This might help ^^^^^ I know mine improved when I put a Tubb buffer spring in.

Re: Question for Larue OBR owners..

just about every Semi Auto 308 does this. the case is under pressure while it unlocks and thats why you see it. only way to fix it would be a large bore and a long throat to drop pressure super low, but then accuracy will fall and no one wants that either.
