What brass o you guy's use? I've read up on reloading for these for quite some time now and figure what the hell, I load for all my other rifles might as well do this one too. From what I've read LC is the suggested brass as it's harder brass than others. Most the once fired stuff I come across is all once fired through a machine gun. I see Graff and Sons sells PRVI, is this pretty close to LC? I'm thinking of just loading some Rem as it's pretty cheap. Any sugestions?

Re: Question for M1A loaders

I have reloaded Rem,Win,Fc,Lc and usually only load them 4 times in the M1A. All worked fine, as you probably already know the fed brass is softer and pockets get loose but 4 times should be the most in this platform. I load 41.5g IMR 4895 with a 168g Amax and shoots just about MOA in my 308 AR and Super match! Good luck

Re: Question for M1A loaders

Don't waste your time on MG brass. Never know how the head space was set..Loose runs fast and fine in MG's. Not great for reloading.Run new brass three to for times in the M1A then shoot it in a bolt gun or trash it.

Re: Question for M1A loaders

I would definitely suggest LC brass for the m1a. Reloading for it is a little different than reloading for just about any other platform (except the Garand, they are pretty similar).

The brass strength doesn't REALLY come into play unless you have an out of battery slamfire. Which is possible with these platforms. The m1a is hard on brass, and you should not reload the same brass more than 5 times, so if you buy once fired (and believe it) then you get 4 loads out of it. I follow this rule strictly, even when the brass "looks good", though I am sure there will be a bunch more experienced people explaining that they get 10+ reloads from their LC brass in m1a.
It just isn;t worth loosing fingers, hands or eyes to me.

I can't comment on Remmington specifically for the m1a, but I will never buy another batch of it after the experiences I had with it in .223.

I use LC once fired, small base dies (yes, my m1a REQUIRES them to function well, some peoples don't) and toss the brass after the 4th reload.

Just my experiences with reloading for the m1a, YMMV.

Also for excllent info on reloading for the m1a from a true expert then give Zedikers pdf files a read: http://www.zediker.com/downloads/m14.html

Re: Question for M1A loaders

Thanks much for all your reply's. I have copied the Zedicker download and put it in a binder, I'm on my second reading for a brush up for my reloading. This is where I read that LC or a decent substitute would be IMI. I've scanned several places for brass and can't find what's recomended. Maybe I'll keep searching and when I find some I'll buy s..t load, as 4 loadings isn't much. I see new LC 223 brass but never for the big brother. Any other help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Question for M1A loaders

I've heard that PMC works great too.

Just haven't done the second reload on the two small lots I have. Differing headstamps, never weighed or checked water capacity. Yet. I'm getting good at it... See my thread of FC brass in .308...

Later,

Grump.

Re: Question for M1A loaders

Scharch has processed, mixed headstamp LC for 90$ per 500 I think. I have been using it in my AR308 (I sorted through the headstamps and it's mostly LC74, LC07) and load them in batches according to headstamp. Scharch's also has IVI brass which is Canadian Military Brass I think, I have heard it is good stuff.

Re: Question for M1A loaders

I was given some LC brass that waas fired in an M60. Quite a few of the heads were so swollen that no matter how hard I worked the press I couldn't resize the head. I threw them in the recycle bin.
