I recently replaced the barrel on a ruger precision 6.5 cm. Its a barrel from LRI. Will the torque on the barrel nut effect accuracy? I have the new model with the clamp on the bottom that secures the barrel nut. Accuracy has fallen to pieces. The barrel was set with go, no go gages and has cycled well. Accuracy is just terrible. I tried it with and without a can. Same result. Does the torque on the barrel matter?

My question is does barrel torque have anything to do with accuracy as long as the head space is correct on Ruger Precision.
So was the accuracy good with the LRI barrel and then it went to shit or it’s been shitty from the very beginning with the LRI barrel? Factory ammo or hamdloads? Have you tried different ammo or different shooter?
I pulled the factory barrel off and installed LRI prior to shooting. I have nightforce one piece scope mount that has been torqued to specs. I was questioning the barrel torque because it was the only aspect that wasnt torqued to specs. It was at 40 pounds before it started slipping in my barrel vise. Because it has a keeper on the bottom of the barrel nut I figured it would be ok. Headspace is fine. The reason behind my original question was kind of the process of elimination. I suspect it may be the scope. my shot groups are indicative of something moving. Shoot six shots and I end up with three groups of two touching but 3 inches apart. I was searching for any reason not to have to buy a new scope for this thing.
I havent worked up a oal for it yet. I did try different grain ammo with and without the can with the same result.
Its a bushnell elite that i bought from someone else second hand. Im typically a smidt &Bender guy but couldnt bring myself to put a 3000 dollar scope on a 1300 dollar gun. Im thinking it could be the source of my trouble
Barrel nut torque does not sound like an issue if you got it that tight. Replace the scope with a known good one. For what it's worth I have had to send a scope to Bushnell and they took care of me very well.
If the rifle was never shot with the factory barrel you really have no idea what might be amiss.
Why not call Chad? He's worked with a gazillion of these- I'm sure he'll have suspicions as to the culprit.
Swapping out the optic with a known good one as suggested is always a good starting point.
