Just wanting opinions/ experience with free floating bolt heads such as Bergara Premier and Savage. My question/ concern is that it seems like every time the bolt was opened, any lug grease applied to the locking lugs would be scraped off by the gas shield because of the tight fit between locking lugs and gas shield . I had a Weatherby gall the locking lugs so I'm paranoid of not having grease on the lugs... Any thoughts?

The grease applied should be minimal to start with and regarding it being scraped away is a non issue considering it will basically fill into all of the micro pores and tooling marks on the mating surfaces.

If you have ever looked at any machined parts under magnification you will see that even those that look shiny and smooth will have a textured look or tooling marks present.

The grease will act as a anti friction barrier between the parts as they are cycled and eventually lapped or matted to each other over time and use.

Thanks for the explanation. Guess I'm just paranoid because of my past experience but that was before I knew that you should grease lugs once in a while so I'm sure they were pretty dry and some of the ammo I was shooting had a pretty stiff bolt close. Crazy thing is that the rifle (Weatherby Vanguard) still shot very well even with grooves on the locking lugs :)
