Is a 30-06 a long action or short action caliber? I was wondering if I could have my Savage .308 rebarreled into a .30-06?

It's a long action. As to whether or not you can have your current rifle done in .30-06, that will depend. Some Savage .308s were built on the 110 long action, but most are the model 10 short action.
If you want a 30 cal thats bigger and beefier than the 308, your only real option is the 300WSM, which is one of my favorite cartridges.
