Well I have my next project.

I have a 308 Win Left hand "M40A1 clone" rifle built by Mike Lau of Texas Brigade Armory. I have sought a similar 22lr rifle so that I can train and practice without the cost of burning through 308 ammo.

This picture is one that is RH (from the TBA website)

This NOT my profession, it is merely a hobby for me, so close is OK for my purpose.

I recently bought a Savage mark II BTVLSS and while the thumbhole stock is "nice" it isn't like the M40A1.

I have learned that replacement stocks are available from McMillan and from Manners composite, I simply couldn't pony up the cash needed for those choices.

I shoot left handed since I am left eye dominant. Boyds makes a variety of stocks, but options for LH actions are limited. I was able to acquire a RH Boyds "rimfire hunter" stock in "AppleJack" (Red & Black) finish.

I was pleasantly surprised how closely the lines of the Boyd's RH match the McMillan M40A1 stock

I have 2 questions about fitting this stock to my LH action.

First I plan to use a Dremel with a carbide burr or sanding drum to mill the stock to have a mirror image of the cutouts on the LH side. Is this how I should shape this part of the laminated stock? Are there better options?

Here are some images of the cut outs I need to duplicate.

The second question is what should I plan to fill the old cutouts (on the RH side with when I am finished. I am a bit concerned about having deep cutouts on both sides of the stock. Should I use an epoxy? Or will ordinary "Bondo" auto body filler be enough?

I plan on painting the stock when all is finished so I don't need to match the "applejack" finish.

Thanks for your opinions.
