The 6.8 spc is a .277 caliber bullet. Why cant I use a 135gr SMK that says 270 winchester on it? The "heaviest" bullet for the 6.8 spc offered is the 115gr SMK. So my question is, can I use any .277 cailber bullet?

The 6.8 SPC is best suited for the small "6.8" bullets...the .270 Winchester bullets range from 130-160gr are too long to seat to mag length in the AR platform, if you had a bolt gun you could probably get away with it but then I'd have to ask why on earth did u get a bolt chambered in 6.8 when the .270win gets a 150gr at 3000fps no sweat..

The other thing is that the 6.8 bullets are much shorter than the .270win class stuff, the 1/10" twist was meant for those longer 130-150gr bullets; its faster than whats recommended for the 6.8, ideally a 1/12" twist..

In a nutshell those long ass .30-06 class bullets just aren't suited for the short SPC case. You give up powder capacity to accomodate that length..
