Hi All,
Before I start on this post, I would like to give
TresMon the ad a boy! I have been reloading since 1972 and Never had a problem, and so I thought I new just about everything that could be known HA Ha. His guide is the BEST I have ever seen or read hands down!!
My Question: having to do with load devolement for the right combo of powder and bullet?? Since I have never seen Q.L. I am not for sure exactly how it works, from just what has been posted, I would like to know if I can put my rifle's info and then look for what it tells me the best: Like 6mm 87gr vmax bullet and XXXX of IMR 4064 and then it gives me the ballistics of that load????????????????????
Will it give me info on what to do??
What I guess I am trying to find out is: instead of me loading all the varibles of each bullet and powder combo and then going to the range, will it help me out, less range and loading time?
If Q.L. will do this, is there any other program that works the same for less money?? I am going to throw all my data that I have gathered and start off fresh next spring.
Explaining and writing it down are 2 different things, it is easy to do a face to face than it is write it down and put into words what a person is trying to find out.
I would be much great full for any and all help.
Greg

Re: Quick Load-Yes or No ??

Yes what quickload will allow you to do is to say take a cartridge .243 Win for example. Then play with different charges with different bullets and lets you see what it will aproximately do. If you have brass you've shot, and know the dimensions of your barrel (lands and groodve diameters) you can fine tune it and it is very accurate. What it doesn't let you do is adjust for different primers.

What I like to do is say pick the powder try different charge amounts see what it's calculating and then go out and try. Pulling the trigger is the only way to really know what works, but it eliminates alot of the trial and error.

Re: Quick Load-Yes or No ??

not that quickload isnt useful for getting some rough information but , tweaking the bore/cartridge demensions does little to make the program more accurate , at least compared to my pressure trace machine.

you know , part of me thinks the dumb thing with the program is there is no variable for primers , now if your using a mag primer vs a standard, not that i think changing primers can have this massive effect on internals but , to not have any input for primers seems flawed.

the program is worth the money if you do allot of reloading for all sorts of calibers, but not for precise work , compared to my pressure trace i have seen differences of over 10,000 psi and .1 difference in exit times , to much to be acceptable.

if there was another program out there that does the same thing i havnt heard of it.

haha , call the quickload people , HAHA becuase they are so fucking helpful right.

Re: Quick Load-Yes or No ??

I find QL to be a refrence tool and that is about it. Some powders it is accurate, but on some, its way off. I have attempted tweaking some of the values, but I can not get linear matchups with my real world data (shooting over chrono). I like the program, but it does not replace loading manuals or working up a load.
