Hey Everyone,

I finally saved up all my pocket change and hit the CoinStar.

Bought a Giraud.

If you are on the fence or even considering buying one...DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER. DO IT!

This is the greatest purchased improvement to my loading process.

Changing calibers is a snap since I purchased a separate trimmer & case holder combo. Adjusting trim length is very easy. My use is some of my bulk crap .223 brass is trimmed to 1.730" for use with an RCBS X-Die and my better brass is trimmed to 1.750" for LR loads.

I now know what all the hype is about.

Now if someone could design and add a PTO unit to it for a flash hole uniformer attachment and a primer pocket uniformer it would be king of all case prep units.

Remove and Replace the lock nut on the shell holder with a Hornady Forster or Sinclair die lock ring, don't bother adjusting the cutting blade for other calibers, just buy new cutter assy and shell holders, simple and fast caliber changes then with no loss of adjustment.

Giraud shows this in his patents, not sure why he doesn't offer the options...

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

I would have to agree w TRG ^. I shoot somewere near 150 - 200 rifle rounds a month, and this is not only a time saver, but a game changer.

Between work, keeping my wife happy (who also got me the Giraud...:)) and flight school, my shooting time is at a premium.

This trimmer alone cut my load times by probably 60%.

Awesome tool!

because he knows everybody already has a Dewalt

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

Nope, the reason I never pursued it was liability. I can just imagine somebody grabbing a freshly trimmed case by the mouth and jamming it against a primer pocket cutting bit turning at 2300 rpm. After cutting a perfect .30 caliber plug out of his thumb, the next sound I would hear would be some shyster lawyer suing me. Its just not worth the meager profit from selling $50 worth of parts. Way too much exposure for way too little compensation.

That's why you use good brass to start with.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

I bought one and trimmed all my brass so fast that I didnt need it anymore and sold it.

I agree, it is one of the best designed and implemented tools I have ever used, period. Not just for reloading. If anything can make a job so easy to do perfectly, it is an amazing tool.

I may regret selling mine now as I am starting to shoot a semi more. My brass doesnt seem to need trimming very often at all in bolt guns.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

Liability is an issue with every product, and a very significant issue with a power tool. I own a Giraud trimmer, I am a lawyer, and I can absolutely guarantee you one thing: I will never sue Mr. Giraud no matter what stupid stunt I might manage to do to injure myself.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

I had a stockpile of 2x fired 223 brass that I was sitting on while I deliberated. I bought my Giraud over six months ago, but only used it for the first time tonite. Pretty simple, and not so loud that I can't use it in my basement without fear of waking the kids upstairs (you late night reloading parents know what I am talking about).

I appreciate the tip about the locking ring. I have a bunch of them laying around and will probably look to add a caliber conversion some time this year.

If I shoot anywhere near as much as I plan on this year I will get my $$$ worth out of it for sure.

Hey its Doug Giraud! I swear Snipers Hide is the best shooting site on the internet.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

I was previously hand trimming 100 prices of brass on a Lyman Acculine in around 2-3 hours including all the breaks to get the cramps out of my hands and fingers. I just did something like 400 pieces of brass on the Giraud of both ..223 and .308 brass in around an hour or less INCLUDING changing the cutter heads.

And the Hornady locking rings were the best advice I got here yet. I can't believe Doug doesn't include that with each shell holder. The ring setup he has now is about the only flaw in his design. The extra $2 for the Hornady rings are worth their weigh in gold for repeatability.

LOVE IT!

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

Can someone explain the lock nut advice? I've got a trimmer on order. Also, I've ordered my setup for 7wsm, but also spent the extra $45 for the 308 shellholder??

There is one other piece that is optional, but was told I can adjust the cutter head?

Sorry for my ignorance.

Nevermind my earlier post. I think i'll just spend the extra money for the 308 cutter assy and holder.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

Trimming is one of things I really didn't enjoy but now I honestly can't wait to use it each time.
You feel a little let down when your done trimming 150 pieces and there's no more left lol.

Re: Quick Observation: Giraud Tool Trimmer

Well, I was going to have them throw in the 30 cal cutter, but it's already been boxed up and shipped. Quicker than the 2 weeks they mentioned.

I'll be adjusting the cutter after trimming all our 7wsm brass. I have plenty of 308 brass to test/adjust til I get it right.

+1 for great customer service. Fast and friendly.
