Our local handgun range considers anything more than 1 shot per second as rapid fire and will kick you if warned more than once.

Yeah, I almost got kicked off the range yesterday for "rapid fire" I've shot there before and never had a problem but for some reason this guy was all over me about one thing or another, Personally I didn't think it was rapid, and neither did the guy next to me. So I was just curious about what is really considered rapid.

So, what if someone is practicing legitimately for various situations where "rapid" fire may be needed, such as multiple target engagement?
I understand that they don't want people just out there blazing off ammo. Perhaps if someone really were wanting to practice a specific COF for various scenarios they should present that to the RSO first so they don't get caught up in the RSO power trip....err... I mean safety calls.
So, what if someone is practicing legitimately for various situations where "rapid" fire may be needed, such as multiple target engagement?

I could be wrong but 15 rounds in about 25-30 seconds with a pistol isn't rapid to me, and around every 3-4 seconds with the rifle. Scout I think you're right about the power trip simply because the guy gave me the option of unloading my AR mags which are 30 round mags, but I only had 10 in each due to the range rules (centerfire rifle can only have 10 round cap) or leaving. so I did that twice. While waiting for a bench I had my AR bolt locked back (which you could tell because the charging handle was back as well) but I had closed the dust cover so the chamber wouldn't get soaked since it was raining, I had to open it so he would know that the chamber is clear even though I was trying to explain to him why I had it closed. It was definitely an....... interesting day at the range. I'll go back but that's because there aren't to many rifle/pistol ranges in my area.

Rapid fire is differant in pistols, depending on bullseye or ISU.
Bullseye 5 shots 10 seconds @ 25 yards, that wont cut it in ISU.
ISU you have 5 targets, you shoot three stages, 7 seconds to shoot the five, then 5 seconds, and then 3 seconds.
You need a light pistol round. In rimfire they use 22 shorts, in CF they tend to use 32 cal.
It will humble you.
RF rifle is 10 shots (w/mag change) in 60 seconds @ 200 yards, standing to setting, 10 shots (w/mag change) in 70 seconds @ 300 standing to prone.
Use to be 50 & 60 seconds respectively but they changed it in the 80s, guess high power shooters were getting old, Heck now I dont think you have to even stand before the targets appear.
