R15 and a 190gn Berger VLD ( 308 )

OK I have been really wanting to use this combo since I have alot of R15 to use.but all so wanted to hear your thoughts or ides to the combo first.and yes,I know your thought will think about Varget.but have alot of the R15.my needs are this.

1)it needs to be fast.no need to expand,just needs to hit hard
2)can or will it hold up from one season to the other.( hot to cold )
3)do you think I will be able to get them into the mag for rapid fire if needed.( accuracy wise )

really want to hear your thoughts on this.they need to be really accurate from/for my needs.hope someone has played around with the same combo.

I don't have any experience with the 190's but I do dhoot the 180's SMK's with RL15 with very good results. My load for the 180's is 43.5grn's of RL15. I would just start at or around 42 and work my way up until you start noticing pressure signs. I know that atleast 46 grns will fit in a Winchester case seated at AI mag length due to that being what I use with the 168SMK's

what no one wants to help.well I guess the kid will be sad.forgot to ay its a project for the kid.thats why we choose R15 and not Varget.we know that varget will hold up to the different temps.and that we had alot of the R15 to play with.

I did some load development with 190MK and RL-15 and liked the results. My starting charge was 43.0 and went up till I got to 2800 fps. Accuracy was great all the way to 900 yards. My COL was/is 3.000, out of a 30" Krieger barrel. I have moved on to N550 and RL-17 with the heavies in the 308.

I have also loaded the 190 Sierra at msg length and it does well at 42.5 of RE15. I know the VLD's can be tricky to get to shoot, but you might be able to get them to mag length. go to bergers tech notes section and look at the recommended test to see where they like to w jumped in your rifle. I tried this with a 556 and 3 different VLD's and they all had a sweet spot they could tolerate jump at. Some were incredible jumps of over .040!! Try didn't do anything the 77 Sierra wouldn't do easier, so I never messed with them anymore. I never messed with them in a 308, but I would think the Berger tech note would apply to any vld. I would also assume based on your name that your going to be using a 5R remington factory rifle. Great rifle have 2, but the throat on them is like Linda Lovelace deep. And to even touch the lands would mean loading it like a howitzer with some bullets. Place a bullet in there ram it home then load a case with powder in it.... It can be that deep. You will end up jumping them, probably alot and the test is well worth the effort. Do it at 300 if you can, it is shocking.

great all info seems to be what we thought it would be.we will try your loads to see if we come up with the same.

no its a different rifel.( not a 5R )we wanted the most out of the round.so we went with a friends 308 with a 26 inch barrel 1:12 twist

thanks for shareing about the Berger jump chart.forgot all about it.we will try to see if we can get them mag length.

now we just need to come up with a target that will hold up to the bullets impact but not to the point it want hold up.still needs to be able to damage it some.this is the real part of the testing part of the project.any ideas to what kind of steel plat we can use.I know AR500 will hold up but we think it will not give the results we are looking for.we want to see some sort of damage.rather than an impact spot.the best range we choose was at 300 yards if this helps out.
