I figured I would share some of my reloading results and observations from shooting my R700 5R Milspec .300 WM over the past 2 weeks or so. A short history of the gun I bought, picked it up about a month ago, kinda pieced it together how I wanted over a week or so, broke it in with 3 boxes of 190 gr FGMM SMKs. The components consist of R700 5R barreled action, AICS 2.0, Timney set at 2 lb., SWFA 5-20x50 Non ILL sitting in low Seekins 30mm rings and on a EGW HD 20 MOA base, and a Atlas bipod with the spigot.

At this point I started off by picking up four different bullets and 2 lbs of H1000. The bullets consisted of 190 SMK 220 SMK 208 AMAX and 200 Berger Hybrids. I ran my loads starting at min load all the way up to max in 1 gr increments. Running the H1000 I only found 1 load out of all of the bullets with H1000 @ 100 yards. 220 gm SMKs shot surprisingly impressive. With this load:

220 gr SMK
74 gr H1000
Winchester Brass
FGMM primers
OAL=3.49" (.01" off the rifling)

At this point I decided after reading up on snipers hide of course, RE-22 was a prime choice for .300 WM. So I picked up 2 lb. Now when I ran the H1000 I was getting beat to death by the gun so I decided to run a AAC 90T Muzzle Brake(courtesy of RangerWalker71). Ran the same tests with the same bullets and found 2 loads that worked very well @ 100 yards as well. Loads:

190 gr SMK
68.5 gr RE-22
Norma Brass
FGMM Primers
OAL=3.49"(.1" off the rifling)

200 gr Berger Hybrid
70 gr RE-22
Norma Brass
FGMM Primers
OAL=3.59"(due to AI mags only able to hold 3.6" max OAL which was .7" off the rifling)

Being this is my first magnum rifle, I played around abit trying to find the best shooting postion(off a bench) and relized that I was having issues with the muzzle wanting to jump up on me off a benchrest, so I went to my Atlas bipod and a rear bag and shot 10x better.

So from what I can see the accuracy is extremely impressive IMO for a factory barreled action, so far the 200 gr Berger has shot the most consistant and I could not be more happy with my setup. I was a little dissapointed I could not get the 208 AMAX to group at all for some reason, was really hoping to see what it could do, due to all the praise on here. Im hoping to get out to longer ranges sometime in the next 2 weeks or so and really see what this gun can do and also check out the 210 Berger VLD and 185 Lapua Scenars.

(If this post is in the wrong place I appologize in advance)

Nice set-up. Did you buy the 24" threaded or the 26" and have somebody thread it? What did you coat it with?
I Bought two 5r 300 wm this yr. One I set up for suppressed hunting. The other for long range comps/1000yd fun.

The first was sent to Mark Pharr here in Austin. He Cut and threaded it at 22.5 inches. Installed a tac knob and pinned the bolt handle. Coated it in black gun kote. Installed a badger m16 extractor. Lapped the lugs. Bedded it with steel devcon to a Manners t5a chassis. Installed and bedded a nightforce 20moa rail. Timney trigger set at 2.0. The gun has almost no recoil when the 30p-1 suppressor is on it. With the short barrel I try to keep the powders on the fast side and the bullets on the medium to light side. This gun loves the 185 VLD loaded with 68.0 imr4350 .010 off the lands. Shoots 5 shots in the .400's all day, sub 1/4" 3 shot groups. The 185s are running 2850ish in the summer suppressed.

The second 300wm 5r has a 26" barrel. I bought it unfired with the following work already completed.
RWS Brake
Manners T4 minichassis with 300WM AI Mag in multicam
PPR fulted bolt (he does badass work!)
SAW bolt knob
Barreled action Cerakoted in armor black
Action bedded to stock
Timney 510 Trigger
TPS bedded 20 MOA Rail
Accu Shot front Pic Rail
This gun is waiting for my Mark 8 from Leupold and has not been shot. I think Im going to swap the 5-20ss from the other 300 wm and take it out this week. Ive got some loads worked up with h1000 (berger 215,230...amax 208) I'll let you know if I find one that shoots.
The two in the back are the 5Rs. The gap cammo is a R&D precision match 308.

Re: R700 5R Milspec .300 WM testing/review

I had it Cera Koted from a guy here in Tomball Tx, place called Grip Reductions, his main deal is molding glock grips for regular shooters up to competion shooters. I bought it in the 24" threaded model, when funds allow it I am going to run a can. My plan over the next year is to shoot the barrel out on it and rebarrel and true the action, as well as delve into the .338 LM world, im more or less using this to give me experience in the magnum world.

all i did was use a little muscle, it was tight for sure but as long as you dont push it all the way on(about 80% or so) it functions properly and call4life the 190s shot brilliantly during the break in period way better then I expected consistanly shooting 1/2 moa @ 100 yds.
