I got a G34 that I'm looking to turn in a race gun set up (no red dot)... Looking at slide and grip reduction with beaver tail work along with some internal tricks.

Show me the way if you got some sound advice.

    Pics would be sweet.

Controlled chaos is doing a 50% off Memorial Day weekend special and I just looked on their site, they do glock grip reduction, modification, texturing, beaver tail and coating. Check them out, deal ends tonight. There is a thread on here somewhere

    Good point Adam,

Mostly uspsa and maybe a little 3 gun down the road.

I got a G19 that I ran in IDPA.... Figure I would keep that in the production realm and push my G34 into a whole new platform.

I'll need to do alot more research on what each class pertains to but I'm looking for some friendly advice here b4 I get ass raped (figure of speech) by a builder saying I need shit I really don't.

All you need to do to a 34 is change the sights and buy some trigger parts. I have a bomar machined into mine and run a Dawson fiber optic front sight. I use a lightened steel striker with a reduced power spring. I also use a ghost connector and a reduced power return spring.

    I bought this kit

I live near the Glock Store and have seen quite a few custom Glocks they have built. These guys do some top notch work and really know their stuff. I haven't had any custom gun built by them but the ones I've shot at their facility are some damn smooth shooters.

    I run a G35 in Limited( I just don't like optics on a pistol)

    - Dawson Ice Magwell
    - Ghost Inc connector/spring kit
    - Sevigny Sights(I think, maybe Warren?)/iron rear - green fiber optic front
    - Grip tape on grip, under trigger guard, and on frame just forward of slide lock(takedown lever).
    - Factory Recoil spring assembly(I just replace every 2k rounds)

    G35overall.jpg

MAGS - I installed Dawson +4 removeable bases. They come off really easily so when I'm dropping mags in sand, I can take 'em apart, brush 'em out, and good to go for next stage.

I'd personally start with LIMITED class, then if you decide that's too similar to production, you can take your LIMITED built gun and make it an open gun.

I'm a good solid B-class USPSA shooter, and I'm still not as good as the gun. Being smooth on reloads, making shots count vs spray-n-pray is so key. I'm NO PRO, never will be. BUT damn, it's sure fun trying to be!

I just shoot an older G22. It's not a "race gun" but it does pretty well.

I have the 3.5# connector and new springs. It it a pretty clean break with the $0.25 polish job.

I went this route b/c I didn't want it to feel drastically different than my EDC G19.

I have since decided to stay with a limited build.... Thanks for your input.

Re: Race Glocks... Show me the way!

If you decide you need stippling/grip reductions/etc., I am VERY happy with the work that Lane at Cold Bore Custom did on my G34 and Benelli. It's straight stippling, no added material. I got his "Carry" stipple, and it locks into the hand better than my home-made OR my Bowie glocks.

That, and a set of Warren/Sevigny Competition sights are very about all I've done to mine. The only Glocks that I've seen choke were the ones that had been messed with too much....so I don't. I added a Vickers mag release, but it's hardly needful on a G34 (not shown in this pic, as this is a new frame.) Dryfiring and shooting will smooth out your trigger just fine.

Re: Race Glocks... Show me the way!

I went ahead and did my mods that I think will best benefit me...Thanks for all of you guy's help/input on the topic. My only other question is, are aftermarket barrels allowed in limited and are they worth the coin? My orginal G34 barrel has to have 5k or more down the tube (still shoots fine but I was thinking maybe down the road)...

Re: Race Glocks... Show me the way!

Got a screaming good deal on this, not sure exactly how to set it up when I get my hands on it.

Right now I'm planning on ditching the sight for an Aimpoint I have sitting on my desk with no home, then trying to mill the base and put a front sight to get see through irons, probably topped of with a Fastfire/Deltapoint eventually.

Only thing I like about it right now is the fiber optic rear and the beavertail. Just so you know, that's the cheap way to do a beavertail, its a little attachment piece that's held on by the frame pin.

Re: Race Glocks... Show me the way!

Here's how my race Glock turned out. Shoot Limited in IPSC. Used to have a stock frame w/ Dawson mag well. Vanek trigger, Dawson sights, CCF race frame, extended....well, everything that matters..

If I continue to shoot 3 gun with it(where no one is concerned about "classes"), then I plan to mount an RMR up top. It's a heavy prick with this steel frame, but I love it anyway.

Kswift- That Glock you've got is atrocious and offensive with that HUGE and CRAPPY dot on it. Makes me sad.

Glocks in general are atrocious and offensive. But yah, once I get my hands on it, the gun will most likely get stripped for parts...

Re: Race Glocks... Show me the way!

I got an aftermarket barrel in trade for misc gun parts a few years back. For all of us mere mortals, just go with factory Glock barrel, shoot FMJ projectiles, and go shoot, spend money on ammo, gas to go compete, renewing your USPSA membership, etc. etc.

In short, the aftermarket barrel, recoil assembly just caused hiccups. For $10/ea, I just replace the recoil assembly every 2k or so rounds. As others have said, trigger works itself after dryfiring and use.

Have fun, you have a great set up that should last you for many years of shit-eating grins!
