Anyone have / had any experience with these barrels. I have been doing research on them and am reading the Select barrels are made by either Black Hole, Shilen and I even read Pac Nor on one site. Depending on which site you go to obviously one must consider the source. I know thier Ultra Match is a Shilen blank but I am courious about the select modle. Prodiving the person behind the trigger does his job properly using 168 FGMM what kind of accuracy can one expect say 100-500 yards? I am helping a friend with a build.

The UltraMatch line is supposed to be their premium line, but they'll take back a Select barrel (which they guarantee to be sub-MOA) if you don't like its performance. I do like the 1 in 11 twist and 5R rifling on the Select, though, and I've found that calling Rainier usually results in more info than I was hoping to find. You might give them a ring and see what they have found - they're pretty straightforward guys.

+1 on calling them and discussing any questions/concerns you may have. They are good folks at Rainier and they'll help you to work through any concerns you may have with honest and straightforward answers. I don't know that they'll necessarily tell you who is making their barrels for them (although they have been clear about their UM barrels being Shilen blanks with WOA doing the finish work on them). Furthermore...they MEAN IT when they say that they guarantee MOA or better accuracy with those barrels. If you buy it, install it, shoot it and within 90 days aren't satisfied with the accuracy under the terms they sold you the barrel...they'll take it back and refund you your money! PERIOD.

FWIW...the answer is NOT Shilen as they don't offer a 5R/Polygonal twist .30 cal barrel to my knowledge which the Select barrels clearly are marked on Rainier's site (Shilen does offer a 4-groove ratchet in .30 cal, but not 5R poly).

Re: Rainier Arms 20" Select 308 barrel

The select barrels are BHW. I can vouch for their warranty, as I bought the 20" barrel this summer in 308, and it shot horribly. Very inconsistent, with different weight bullets going to drastically poi. Sent it back, and got another of the same, and it's a dramatic improvement, though not a tackdriver yet. Haven't had a lot of time for load developement though. Have had quite a few good groups, but haven't found anything outstanding. Need to try some Federal GMM some time for a base line.

So I can't say whether I'd recommend them, based on my experience they're hit or miss. I think if I started over I'd spend the extra $100 on the Shilen and be done with it.
