I know the 2 don't have anything to do with each other besides they're for guns and midwayusa sells them both. that's about it. LOL

I have like 50 dollars of midway credit, and I want to either get the Holland anti cant device, or the Shooter Chrony F.

For now, I'm not shooting at extreme distances right now (100-200 for now) so I'm not sure how beneficial a anti cant device on a bipod that doesn't have tilt to begin with.

I could spend bit more money and get the Shooter Chrony F. I think it'll help for load development and creating DOPEs

I know they are 2 random items, and whatever I get this month, I'll get the other next month probably...

Just a stupid decision I wanna make.

help me out! LOL

I heard those things were decent as long as you get good lighting on them?

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I proudly cast my vote for "None of the Above."

The Shooting Chrony chronographs are really hit and miss and frankly, aren't worth the money. With the exception, maybe, of direct sunlight, any slight variations in lighting conditions will wreak havoc on the reliability/accuracy of these cheaper units. I'm not sure if it is better to have no data or to have bad data, but I know I'd much rather have ACCURATE data that I can trust and my level of confidence in the Shooting Chrony products points me to other options for a chronograph.

As for the level...well that is a matter of personal preference, but I don't care much for the scope tube mounted units all that much. It is just more crap hanging off of your optic and the offset Holland unit looks to me like a great way to exert unnecessary force onto your scope tube if you are running the rifle hard or otherwise using the rifle for anything other than a range toy. While I'm sure the ring-mounted level will fail/break before the scope does (at least on decent optics), I personally prefer the rail-mounted levels over the Holland's design.

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I'm shocked nobody likes the shooter chrony here. Everyone at midway was satisfied with it, with the exception of the people that had the lighting condition problem

There are people that's upset wIth that chrony's performance 2 on midway. 2 units back to back show the inconstancies apparently

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I've had apparently good luck with my Chrony. Hard to say when you have nothing to check against, but same loads give very similar data on different days, and within-group data seems reasonably consistent. That data plugged into a ballistics program also works reasonably well - I attribute variance to weather, since I don't have a Kestrel, or to me, but I have shot past 1,000 yards successfully using this information. The shades are a PITA, though.
I do not have an anti-cant device other than my eye, and between the two I have much more use for the chronograph, like checking potato gun performance.

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

Yeah, I think a chrono is in order then...

Thing is, I'm having a tough time deciding between prochrono or ced m2. I was actually gonna buy quickload, but with help of some hisses, I might utilize a chronometer better. So instead of a chrono shooter, I can get a ced m2 or prochrono, but then the quick load will be on hold for a while...

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I'd vote none of the above as well. Use some of your wit/charm to make friends at the local range. Borrow the use of a chrony.

Anti-cant device, well combine it with a rail mounted reddot/white flashlight/iphone adapter and you might have something.

Good Luck

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

FWIW...
I have an Oehler 35, as well as an older F1 Shooter Chrony, my shooting buddy has a Prochrono...

We staged the Shooter Chrony behind the 35 and shot a 308 and a 6.5 x 55 through both at the same time,
then did the same with the Prochrono......
the Shooter Chrony was consistently closer to the 35 than the Prochrono was.....

YMMV..... (and it was outside on a sunny day)

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

That's interesting.

Are these things hit or miss?

I mean midway has a decent exhance policy. maybe I can keep missing til I hit. LOL

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I have an Alpha Master Chrony, my buddy has an Oehler 35, side by side my chrony matches the readings on the Oehler very closely, and are consistent.

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

Definately forget the cant.

I own and use a Chrony, allot.

Its the Chrony Gamma (printer) and it has yet to fail me. In other words, I have not found it to be inconsistant or problematic in any way. Light management is pretty straight forward. Twice I have had to darken bullets to get precise readings in extremely bright light, but with a good sense of diffuser management, it has been superb.

Having said that, if I had $50 to spend at Midway, I would be buying http://www.midwayusa.com/Search/#boresnakes____-_1-2-4_8-16-32 until I always had a really nice final pass set (brush taken out) for every caliber.

Re: Random 2 items. which first?

I already have bore snake for all my calibers. I love those things. makes life so much easier. they clean really well too. they get in the grooves real nice.
