Gun is used primarily for hunting and hogs.
Everything on the rifle is stock.
Nikon Prostaff BDC 3-9x40mm
100 yards
1st group is top
2nd bottom. Pulled 2 right after the recoil was making my shoulder shake.
Gun is zero'd at 200 yards, shooting 150gr Winchester Soft points. Usually shoot Hornady SST 150gr.

Shot prone off a sand bag.
Very uncomfortable to shoot (stock, positioning, recoil)
The stock made me feel just weird, i tried to get good positioning and nothing worked, after 4-5 shots felt my forearm begin to strain.

Overall i am pleased, but im itching to get my .308 to start really putting in more practice hopefully resulting in tighter groups, with a built rifle.

Re: Range report for my Rem 700 in 7mm Mag

My right forearm ( with grip on the stock )

A High Prone strains my neck/back.
Low prone strains my arm/shoulder
Heres my positioning.
Rifle on sandbag. I had to strain so i tried this
Rucksack (empty) near butt of gun with small bag on top to give me NPA. Neck/upper body strain wasnt too bad. Left arm/hand supporting the rear bag. To get a good grip on the stock, because of the heavy recoil i held firm, but not a death grip. I couldnt position the gun firmly in my shoulder. It felt ackward. It was like the gun was more on the top of the shoulder, thats what hurts. Contacting the bone. The top of my forearm began to burn slightly, losing slight fine mechanical skills i.e. bolt control/reloading. I am not out of shape, or overweight. I play alot of guitar, and that doesnt make my forearm burn (fast heavy stuff). I cannot wait until i get a B&C stock/Rem700/bipod/.308 Its painful to get out and shoot, i just dont have the funds

/e I wouldnt say im a small guy either
6'5" 185-190, lanky but tall

Got ya.

I'm venturing to guess it's a combo of the stock not fitting you properly, position, and your compensation for recoil.

Being as tall as you are, I think you will find the B&C to be better for you as long as you are getting an adjustable model.

I could be wrong and welcome a correction by anyone that has a better insight.

Thanks for your reply.
Ever since i gained my height none of my rifles seem to shoot the same, I used to be able to shoot my Rem 7-08 like a champ. Now. not so much

That is the beauty of adjustable stocks.

Try contacting Mike. As I understand he is quite the tall guy himself. Perhaps he can shed some light on what you tall guys need to do.

Re: Range report for my Rem 700 in 7mm Mag

I'll give you 2 quick answers as to why it's painful

1st as you guessed the factory stock is too short.

2nd GET THOSE SEE THROUGH RINGS OFF IT.

The height of that scope makes MY neck hurt.

You'll need a new stock to fix the LOP, that or add a "boot" to the back end.

Cheers,

Doc

Understandable, but Doc's right; put some (much) lower rings on there and it'll be a whole lot easier to shoot.

Re: Range report for my Rem 700 in 7mm Mag

I wouldnt be so quick to hang shit on that 7mm Mag... they are fantastic at long range and have some of the best projectiles available for handloaders.

At worst, you should consider her a "future project"

With a new stock and a muzzle brake she will be a whole new world of awesome... believe me
