Finally finished up some round of 300blk using 5-10yr old 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and some recently purchased Sierra 110gr JHP Varminter bullets.

Loaded up 5rd groups of three different powder levels for each and a couple of 2rd combos of higher powder levels for the NBT's.

Here are the rounds ready to go to the range:

25yd results. Got some more loads in the works and will get it sighted in at 100 yards. Gun shows really good potential and will be shot at 100, 200 and 300 yards in the near future.

Nosler Ballistic Tips loads:

Me too!

But I'm also starting to enjoy reloading again, which is something that I really want to do more consistently.

25 yards tells me that I'm hitting the paper and therefor hitting the berm behind the target and not hitting houses that lay beyond the range.

Factory ammo was not available locally, otherwise i would have sighted it in with that and then shot my loads at 100yds to see how accurate they were.

With little to no reloading data for the 300 Blackout using the bullets I had, I needed to work the loads up carefully to not blow me or my gun up.

Plan was to shoot my loads over a chronograph and check for pressure signs. Chrony didn't want to work for the NBT loads, but I ended up getting it going for the Sierra loads. Found the load that I'm going to use and will now dial in the gun at 100 yards and then fine tune the loads for accuracy.

I think that you'll find 30/221 data or 300 Whisper data to be close enough to get you started without blowing anything up.

Yeah that's pretty much what I did. Also Hodgdon just released their load data, pretty conservative and shorter OAL's than most in my opinion.

Re: Range Report: Noveske Rogue Hunter 300BLK/Reloads

The Sierra 110s have some tremendous accuracy potential in 300 BLK.
Both of those bullets should do very well though.

Here is Hogdon's new 300 BLK data:

I see that you posted this range report over at Silencer Talk, so you likely had this data already.

Not being a jackass, but cheap and easy way to get on paper w/o wasting rounds would be to go to 100yds, place a paper plate at 100yds, come back and take the upper off, take out the bolt carrier, put in a stable position. Then look down the barrel and get the paper plate centered in the bore. Then look through your scope and adjust the scope to the plate. Recheck the barrel bore is still on the plate, then reverify the optics are on target. That will get you in a 2ft ballpark. Then shoot at a larger target to visually see first impact. Adjust scope and done. This works for any cartridge, any bullet, any gun.

Problem being my range has way to many rules to allow that. I bore sight that same way at home all the time and was within 3" of point of aim at 25yards.

What's the big deal shooting the gun at 25 yards to see how the loads chrono and check for pressure signs? I wasn't trying to see what load shot best at 100 yards, just getting an idea where to start with my load development.

I guess I shouldn't have even showed the 25yard group pictures, maybe some of you would have felt better that way......

Re: Range Report: Noveske Rogue Hunter 300BLK/Reloads

I think the theory behind doing 100yds is that if you are going to test for pressure, chrono at 25yds, why not at 100 and see how it groups opposed to wasting ammo at 25yds. Just killing more birds with less stones is all. We don't see many 25yd groups here, even from .22s, but to each his own if you have your own process.
Cheers and good shooting.

Re: Range Report: Noveske Rogue Hunter 300BLK/Reloads

Normally I would buy a box of factory ammo and get it dialed in with that and then proceed to run my workup loads through it at 100 yards, so what you say is correct just wasn't possible.

It's all good, I get to escape the family to go shoot it again.
