i have a rcbs 505 scale. i noticed today i wieghs diffrent depending on how the powder is situated in the pan. am i being to picky? i want to milk every bit of accuracy out of my loads possible and am wondering if this is a hinderance.

depending on how the powder is situated it changes about 1/8th of a inch at most

Re: rcbs 505 scale

Be consistant.

When I drop a charge into my pan prior to placing it on the scale I shake the pan to level the charge in the pan. I do this every time and get consistant results.

Changes by 1/8" of a inch! Are you refering to the pointer in relation on the scale zero??

I sent my scales to Scott Parker to be tuned and I could not be happeir with them.

yes for instance if i weigh a charge perfect take it out an shake the charge not losing any kernals and put it back on the scale the weighing line will be about 1/8th below perfect charge.

good idea ablout shaking it level i think ill try that tomorow

what does scott parker do to tune the scale

Not 100% sure what all he does! I know he fixes up the knife edges and cleans them up! I have a M5 Lyman that he did and I am extremely happy with it.

The M5 he did is grain sensitive!

Re: rcbs 505 scale

Any chance I could get scotts details?

Woudlnt mind knowing the details behind accurizing my scale.

One project I need to get underway for my reloading bench is to build a platform for the RCBS scale, one that has a "footprint" of the unit itself that way it always sits in the same spot and shouldnt lose zero easily by moving the scale.

So long as the platform sits rock solid on the bench, and the bench itself doesnt move the only thing that would shift would be the house itself!

Out of curiosity, does anyone here use the deluxe type RCBS uniflow mount with the powder tube? I wonder if that would reduce inconsistant throws?
