RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

Re: RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

I had to make this decision a few months ago and went with the RCBS. The reason is because RCBS has a $40 rebate on $300 so I bought the Chargemaster for 280 and threw in a few other items...essentially I paid 260 for the chargemaster and some small accessories. Close to the price of the Hornady but tried and true.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

I considered the same choices for the obvious reason of saving $100 or so but, I found a $50 off sale on the RCBS and went that route. I couldn't find much in positive feedback on the Hornady so I was apprehensive to go that route initially but when the RCBS came up on sale, that was the clincher.

BTW, the RCBS seems to have been upgraded in the one I bought. The dispense time is faster than what others have said they were getting with it before the speed was reprogrammed by the end user.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

I had one of the very early LnL versions and to be honest, I was less than impressed with it. After tweaking as much as I could without voiding the warranty it continued to fail and actually stopped functioning.

I called Hornady CS, spent about 5 mins on the phone with their Tech guy who handles the machine and he quickly came to the same conclusion that I had. The unit was defective.

Hornady stepped up like usual and took care of me. I returned my defective one with a note inside per the RMA instructions and less than a week from the day I shipped it I had a new one in the mail.

So far I've run almost 500 rounds through it and checked the first 250 of them against my manual balance. Spot on, quick, exactly what I was expecting with the first one.

I know everyone has a dud once in a while, as we all know it's how the company handles that dud that makes a lot of difference. I'm quite pleased with the replacement I got back.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

I have the RCBS and love it. I do wish it was faster and I will one day get another so I can seat bullets without having to wait for it to finish each dispense. If it had a charge ready eveytime I am through seating the last bullet it would be perfect.

Headgear,

Call RCBS technical support and they will give you the codes to speed up your chargemaster. Mine literally runs 2x as fast after changing the points at which it changes from high, to slow, to trickle.

RCBS for sure. I ended up having an issue with mine when it was out of warranty. Called them up and they said send it back, we will send you a new one. Great CS.

Thanks for the heads up but I have already reprogrammed it. I read all of the posts about reprogramming it and it was a piece of cake and it did some good but it is still dispensing after I have seated the bullet on the last round and I'm waiting. I tried all kinds of settings to get it as fast as I could without it throwing over charges. I think the main problem is that am impatient. I have a little bit of a type AAAAA personality.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster or Harnady Lock-N-Load?

Reprogramming is really easy on the chargemaster... hold edit/mem and enter.

Edit the first two or three settings and then just scroll thru the rest until the unit resets.

I think im running, 7.5gr, 2.0gr and 1.08gr for my first three settings.

+1 on the chargemaster, its a great little unit
