Im about to start building 7mm saum. My plan originaly is to use .317 reamer, caled smithand he said he use match .318 size reamer. I know its half of a thousand both side of neck but is worthed to buy my own 317 reamer am i ganing anything besides half of a thousand on a fired brass? Reamer is 150.00 thats a lot of ammo.should i stick my 317 or take gunsmith advice go with 318. By the way what is tightest neck size before start doing neck turning which im not realy interested of doing.

Unless the free bore on the smiths reamer is unsuitable, go with it.

No reason to spend $150 on your own reamer for .001" diametral clearance.

You'll want a minimum of .004" (.002"/side) neck clearance. More won't hurt.

Tnx turbo.. i was actualy looking forward for your responce.. tnx for helpful.. my smith said he will play with freebore since his reamer has minimum FB he will load a rd that i asked for mac oal touchin land mag feed.ill be using accurate mag which i beleive has 2.970 clearance so dumy round will be 2.960 touchin land with 180vld..this will give .010 jamed land if i have to still mag feed.does this sound right?i know ill be shooting 162 175 aswell but since 180 vld will be my max weight im using as a main

Just my experience but the necks on the rem brass are at least .015 on the 7saum. This would give a clearance of .002 a side @ .318. On a recent build the reamer was a .319 and we cleaned the necks to .015 or slightly less. I have heard from the 7saum guys it likes to have some room on bullet release.

The freebore on this reamer was .188

Tnx rthur.i heard the same on saum like being loosy a little.. the freebore sounds right to me.. il take the 318 then.. like turbo said its not worth buying 317 reamer and spend another 150 just for a half of a thousand both side.thnx to u and turbo confirming saum is goot to go .002 or more both side neck
