I just picked up a accumark in 7mm weatherby for next to nothing! I am far from a reloading or gunsmith nut so I figured i'de get some input on here. I have a remington 700 7mm STW and i was wondering if it would be possible to re-chamber the accumark 7mm wthrby to a STW? Would it just be a simple re-chambering or would more work be involved?

thanks

Re: rechambering 7mm wthrby to STW

The 7 wby mag is .492" OD at shoulder, and the 7 stw is .487". It looks like you'd loose about 2" off the breech end on a complete barrel setback. So I'd say no.

As noted above, the 7mm Weatherby is wider at the shoulder than the 7mm STW. But really, the 7mm Weatherby in a Weatherby chambered rifle about equals the performance of the 7mm STW.

However, you could do a wildcat called the 7mm/300 Weatherby. That would require a simple rechambering. The 7mm/300 Weatherby is simply a 300 Weatherby necked down to 7mm.

Is the barrel a worthy candidate?

If it is, and you have enough "beef" in the barrel to make the chamber longer, then it is do-able.

The shoulder dimensions mentioned above are not a problem, as they are not being measured at the same distances on the two cartridges. The cases have the same taper.
