With all these electronics using these batteries there has to be a good rechargeable alternative. I don't like the idea of paying $2 a battery when some devices go through a few every 20 minutes.

TIA

Re: Rechargeable CR123 Batteries

There are rechargeables available in the same form-factor and working voltage. Li-Ion is probably the best fit for common Li/MnO2 applications. The capacity (life) of the rechargeable will likely be roughly 2/3rds (or worse) of what you are used to.

The battery itself is usually 2x the cost with the PTC (internal protection) but as a rechargeable; you easily recover the cost if it fits the application.

Re: Rechargeable CR123 Batteries

The rechargeable version is called the RCR123. They work fine, but only have about 2/3s the capacity (don't last as long as a normal CR123)

I run the AW brand, which are one of the higher quality versions, and it also has a protective auto-shutdown circuit which prevents the battery from being excessively discharged. This is a very bad thing to do to a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Whatever brand you buy, I'd recommend getting one with this protective circuit.

Lighthound.com is where I shop for these batteries.

Re: Rechargeable CR123 Batteries

Also be aware when using most rechargeable 123 batteries - Some output slightly more than the standard voltage which will pop your bulb. If you have a digital flashlight(LED bulb with conditioning circuit) then you should be fine. I have been using rechargeable 123's for several years now and love them. The savings is tremendous. I keep a spare set of regular 123's in my truck, range bags, and weapon bags just in case, I am an Eagle Scout.... hehe

Re: Rechargeable CR123 Batteries

I've been using rechargeable 123 batteries for 2 years now. Unlike other rechargeable batteries I have, they dont run out of juice as fast on stand-by and are not as affected by the cold (have I light allways in the car, winter was hard and it still works). I bought them on ebay in a bulk +/- $ 1.
