Recoil lug sits off of bedding block. Help.

I am revamping one of my coyote rifles (savage 16) with a fresh barrel and stock. I got the stock in yesterday and the action fits perfectly but the recoil lug sits about 1/16 in front of the bedding block. My question is will I be able to bed the area around the recoil lug and fix the problem or should I send the stock back? Its a B and C m40. Thanks for any help.

I would check to make sure you’re not contacting some other part of your action somewhere else in the stock. I’ve had lots of B&Cs for my Savage rifles and the only time I’ve seen something like you’re describing is when my aftermarket trigger and bottom metal were contacting inside the stock which I solved by relieving it with a dremel. I also never bed them and consistently get very good and consistent accuracy.

Okay, thanks. Ill look at that a little closer before I bed the lug.

The aluminum bed blocks are most likely CNC machined items and getting a different stock would only give you the same result you allready have.
I would just bed the lug and be done with it.
Thats what I was thinking but was going to make sure before I bedded it and couldn't return it. Ill check out what rstrick said first, and if im clearing everywhere ill just bed the lug. Thanks for the reply.

The only B&C stocks I have used have been for Rem700 actions and have had good contact with the recoil lugs but did have a contact point on one with a jewel trigger and had to relieve that area.
Like @Rstrick0352 mentioned check for any other contact points, might be less hassle to just pull the trigger off and check just the action although the aluminum block will tattle tail when there are high spots or unintended contacts.

Yeah its the factory accutrigger. I bet the block is slightly off from my action/ recoil lug because its a drop in stock for a 10 and 12 and mine is a 16. Everything else lines up perfectly. Bottom metal, trigger guard, rear tang, the whole action sits level and flush. I wonder if the model 16's just have an extra thread or two making the recoil lug sit further forward.

That would be strange but not impossible. I’ve used a rat tail file to open up action screw holes to give myself wiggle room when needed. Not saying it will work in your case but would be an easy fix if it would.

Thats a great idea if my bottom metal holes still line up with the stock action screw holes after doing that. I may try that.
