New forum user seeking recommendation for neck sizing dies. Currently loading approximately 400 rds of .308 annually for M1A and bolt gun (IBA Super Tac). Was considering Redding series A deluxe dies (FL and NK) to replace my RCBS FL dies. Not sure if I can justify purchase of Redding bushing neck dies; what about Lee's? Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,
JeffL

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

Should I pursue bushing type dies? And if so, are the Lee's a cost effective alternative to the more pricey Redding's?

Thanks for your help,

JeffL

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

For neck sizing without case resizing, Wilson is the only way to go IMHO. But we are talking arbor press with them. And that is probably not workable for the M1A.
My next preference would be Redding.

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

redding bushing dies are fantastic when you are looking for the absolute most precision but not needed for 90 percent of shooters. lee collet dies produce some incredibly concentric necks. do you load separate ammo for both rifles if not you have to full lenght size because of the chamber differences and not full lenght sized ammo will not feed in a gas gun

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

I'd use the RCBS full length dies you have but just bump the shoulder. You will be getting into a lot of issues if you use bushing dies. They are great, when you know how to use them. How far do you want to go? If you have any reservation at all about cost considerations, stick with what you have until you perceive the need. BB

edit: actually, Explorer has the best advice, if you know what to do with it.

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

Thanks for your thoughts,
I'll continue to use the FL dies for the M1A and try a simple neck sizing die for the bolt gun. The Redding bushing dies may be beyond my experience ( and need ) right now. I'm thinking the Redding Deluxe may be a reasonable step-up as they contain both a FL and neck sizing die. Guess I can sell my RCBS FL dies to help finance the new dies.

Thanks everyone,

JeffL

In 308 Wilson neck die did not work worth a F.... in my experience, in 260 the 308 Wilson neck die is awesome, neck sizing only for a auto loader is asking for trouble, get a Forster FL die and have them ream the neck for your desired neck tension.

Re: Recommend neck sizing dies?

Neck sizing is not only questionable, (not advisable) in a semi auto, but small base dies might be the answer? Nowhere did explorer suggest neck sizing an "autoloader". I can't imagine a Wilson neck die not working worth a F....? Somebody is either misinformed or lacks some critical knowledge? BB
