Considering a budget R700 build for young shooter. Which scope base rec for a budget build?

Seekins? EGW at 1/2 the price?

This isn't going to be a bench gun, it's to teach/practice fundamentals.

Considering a low end R700 or the R783

I’ve used Seekins, but prefer Badger Ordnance. I have no complaints about the Seekins, but Badger is local to me and they’re great folks with great customer service.

Having said that, I’d do the 700 if you’re firm on Remington. Otherwise, I’d seriously consider a Tikka.

Leupold back country base will run you 35 bucks they make it 0 moa and 20 moa. It’s aluminum. You can pick rings pretty cheap

Remington 700 is what I went over the tikka. Not a fan of single stage triggers and plastic stock. But that’s just my opinion. If you get a tikka find a beretta platinum dealer. They sale guns are wholesale prices. Tikka TX3 Lite starts at $550 and one can get a CTR for $800

I have a Tikka and it's great. Accurate, reliable, and smooth. Recommend it often.

That said, the very limited number of options (chassis, trigger, parts) and the "quirks" some of those options have (KRG Bravo for example) make it a great choice only if you don't plan to modify it too much.

Leaning 700, but I'm a little hesitant with all the current Remington bashing on QC, but at under $500 it's the only option that makes sense if I want to use different chassis/short LOP for young shooters, run a suppressor in .223. Thinking MDT LSS or KRG Bravo.

Remington 783 & Ruger Ranch both fit the bill somewhat cheaper, but the long run leans 700. The 783 has a plastic front sling swivel. What do I do if it breaks off as far as mounting a bipod? Had that happened on a molded sling swivel on a Marlin XT22 and it sucked.

Do I then throw $ away buying a new stock or drill and epoxy one in myself to fix something that shouldn't have been plastic in the first place if not for cost cutting?

My sps tac 223 is the rifle I shoot most. I just dropped it off yesterday to finally get cerakoted. I did duracoat rattle can years ago but its starting to show wear.

Mine has a Timney 510, EGW 20 moa base, threaded 5/8-24 and a badger knob. Its been in a B&C tactical for years but recently threw it into a KRG Bravo and love it. I can use MDT mags now and seat bullets longer.

All in all, it has been a very accurate rifle. Yes, they have QC control. You could always work up the factory stock, and coat the barreled action and be done. I have seen a few sps tacs on here completely factory that are hammers.

For youth/new shooters, I don’t think it is a bad option, at a low cost.

First pick is factory coating. You can really see the layer of rust between the bolt. Whats you can’t see is what was on the barrel.

Second pick is after Duracoat. It was really easy to do just a little prep work.

Warne/Weaver for the budget side. I’d lean more toward Weaver, Warne has issues delivering product, so find a store with one in stock. (I’ve been waiting on a rail for 18 months.)

Backing up what everyone else said, the R700 would be my suggestion. Aftermarket support is phenomenal, everybody and their brother has a widget for it.

I recently changed over from two-piece mounts to a rail on my 700 (a modified 1995 VS in .308). I went with a Weaver Picatinney rail and Seekins low (.82) rings. Took it out yesterday and put 60 rounds through it. All nice and tight.

I put a Talley 20moa on my R700, i think it was about $60 and I haven’t had any issues. They also have one for around $80 with an integrated bubbles level which is a really nice feature for the cost!
