I'm looking to move past the 500 yard mark and I'm looking for recommendations on a platform. The Snipers Hide Saber in 6.5CM seems like a great place to start but wanted to get opinions from the community. Should I consider Ruger PSR or something similar or better off doing a custom build i.e. proof barrel, stiller or big horn action, etc.

Requirements:
6.5CM
1,000 yards
multi-use (trainer, psr, etc) something that can fill a multi-use role
$2,000 - $2,500

That budget for completed system(complete rifle with scope, rings, bipod, etc) or just for an action, barrel, and stock/chassis

Do you have a preference between a stock or chassis?

Sorry that budget is just for action, barrel and stock.

I'm not hard set on stock vs chassis, but I am leaning towards a chassis from versatility standpoint.

FWIW - there are a lot of RPRs in 6.5CM on the line at Quantico when we shoot weekends through the Quantico Shooting Club. There are some Bergaras, some Tikas and a Savage or two, but the RPR is second only to the AIs. We shoot 600 - 1000 (known distance) and the RPR, with the right factory ammo, seem to hold under MOA.

Be careful though, I started with an RPR, graduated to a Mausingfield build and am now earning my Masters with an AI. I should have either stuck with the RPR or just bought the AI straight away. :)

BTW - What are you using now to 500? It won't work out to 1,000?

With your budget I’d personally look at the ARC Nucleus or Archimedes...Curtis Axiom or Vector. I’m really partial to 75 degree or less bolt throws. I despise 90 degree throws after starting at 90 degree throws and then getting a 70 degree throw.

Then toss on a barrel of your preference. I have a PVA 6.5 creed barrel and it’s a great shooter. Under 1/4 MOA with handloads when the nut behind the trigger is tight.

There’s a plethora of chassis options to choose from. Choose one whose features or looks that you like and go.

I'm using a Rem 700 in a XLR chassis. It will do 1K but wanted to get into another caliber with the 6.5CM being like a solid choice.

For 2k you are into a custom rifle, big horn action, barrel of your choosing, and a krg bravo/mdt oryx, trigger tech, and roll on.

Action $850
Barrel $600
chassis $400
Trigger $165

At your price you could get a semi-custom from GA Precision on a trued 700 action and have ~800-900 left for a stock/chassis, depending on what options you wanted. You could also cut into your stock budget a bit for a Defiance Tenacity. GAP does great work - I've used them for years and quite a few barrels on my PRS rifle and trainer.

I went with a nucleus in 260.
1000 yards is a chip shot with it.
Here it is hitting steel at 1125 yards.

There's a regular shooter at Quantico using a Rem 700 action in 30-06 that he dropped into an AI chassis. While he handloads for his '06, he hammers steel at 1,000 with boring consistency.

I'm shooting .260R as I prefer the case capacity, shoulder angle and velocities I can get over the 6.5, but the 6.5 is the flavor of the day and has many more factory ammo options than the .260R; you can't go wrong with a 6.5.

I would go with a curtis axiom or vector. I have a vector that is hands down my best action. I also am running a KRG W3 and it's sweet. You can get a button cut barrel for cheap and stay within your budget.

ARC Nucleus, Bighorn Origin or Defiance Tenacity action in a KRG Bravo chassis. Get Keystone to spin up the barrel for you. Trigger of your choice (my preference is the BnA triggers).

That should put you around the $2k ballpark and will be an excellent rifle.

If I ever buy another factory rifle it'll be a Tikka, I've heard nothing but great things about their actions.
You've got a great action and barrel to start with and you don't have to spend extra $400 to true and blueprint like a Remington.
If you're budget doesn't include a scope you're not far from a nice full build either, if you look for deals on components. you can get a great Defiance Tenacity for less than 1k and good to go for a lifetime.

Leaning towards this. Might do the nucleus action but still deciding. Any pro/cons on the KRG vs Oryx?

Cannot speak for the Oryx; never ran one. I can say that I love the KRG Bravo. I’m a traditional stock fan (manners/mcmillan) and I don’t care for most chassis... just a preference. The Bravo gives me the feel of a traditional stock, without the hefty price tag or need for bottom metal.
