Red dot on a railed gas block?

Bought a Burris FF III for my son's LR-308, intended to mount it on the angled rail section alongside the optic.
Even with extra high rings, not enough clearance.
Saw the railed gas block and thought, what the hell...it actually doesn't interfere with the optic (though it sure looks like it would).

Never seen one mounted in this application before.
    Practical?
Concern about heat from the gas block transferring to the FF?

This is a Daniel Defense rail offset rail section. Are there any others that have the rail section below the mounting section, which would allow the red dot to clear the scope tube (but then ejection might be an issue...)?

I don't see him doing a lot of offhand shooting with this 15 lb monster, but hell...he wanted it :)

    Other suggestions? Thanks!
