Re: reloading for .308

First off slow down . Nobody is going to give you data when you don't know what bullets your going to use. There is a ton of load data in the reloading section but you need to filter through it to see what applies to your situation and any data you get from the internet should be backed up by at least one if not two books. By reading through the reloading section you'll also gain a lot of knowledge on brass prep and how to look for trouble signs. If you have a reloading manual and haven't read it thats the first thing you need to do, if you have one you need to read it till you understand it. Rolling your own isn't something to be taken lightly you need to understand what your doing and why. If you have specific questions come back and ask for help but get your ducks in a row first. As to crimp or not depends on what your shooting, semi auto definatly ,bolt action single shot probably not. There is just too many variables for what is ok for one guy might not be for the next. The most important thing is to be safe.

Re: reloading for .308

Try using this search engine for more information, it works far better than the one on the site:

Special SnipersHide Search Engine That Work Good

Don't crimp if a bolt action. Most do crimp if shooting a semi-automatic.

I like many have had good luck with 155 palma smk and 175 smk and Varget (although I've settled on 155 Lapua Scenar in a 24" AW for now).

Here is a link to decent discussions regarding a starting point for load development through ladder tests, etc. I've found using other people's load information useless as tits on a bull generally. Ladder Test Link 1

Also, you may want to go to the top of the reloading section and read Tresmon's posts regarding reloading. There are 4 or 5. Here is the first one and they are very good. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1696162#Post1696162

Good luck bro!

+ 1 for scasa.

There are way too many variables for anyone to answer your question. Read everything you can from multiple sources, educate yourself somewhat more and then you'll be able to ask answerable questions.

Basically, you just said - I'm going to buy a car, how do I drive it?

Need just a little more info to be able to help you.

Re: reloading for .308

Thanks for info. i have reloaded before but for hunting applications. I am just know getting into precision shooting i am very new at it. I have a remington 700 .308 sps varmint on a bell and carlson M2 stock. I am wanting to shoot 150 grain sierra matchking but that is because of more velocity the more i read more velocity has nothing to do with accuracy. I am taking it slow as far as case prep and pressure signs i no what to look for i have done my research but did not show it in the post. But i am just starting precision shooting so bare with me. Thanks Kejones1

Re: reloading for .308

Your right velocity has nothing to do with accuracy. I don't know what twist your barrel has but if I was in your shoes I'd be looking at 168 gr A max or matchkings, benchrest primers and a starting load 10% below max of Varget, in cases that were trimmed, flash hole deburred, primer pocket uniformed, case mouth chamfered and weight sorted. Shoot about 10 of each in assorted charges incresing about .5 gr at a time and then pick the best group and work the charge up and down a little see if it tightens up any. After that start playing with the length run the bullete out to about .010 off the lands (providing your not at max load) and just find what works in your gun . There all different. But thats how you start. It seems like a lot of work but when you see those groups shrink below .5 in it's worth it.
For what it's worth I never crimp and only neck size and single load . Mines is a single shot.
