reloading for AR pistol

Re: reloading for AR pistol

Pshell, I have been loading for it like a rifle. But heard of some people loading blue dot in it with good results. Just wanted to know if anyone here has loaded for a 7.5" barrel with pistol powder. Thanks for any info on this if anyone has any pistol data for the AR.

Re: reloading for AR pistol

Are they doing it to make it sub-sonic? I've not shot a 7.5, but my 10.3'' likes the same Varget and TAC loads the 18'' AR likes. I guess by like, I mean it runs well with them and is more than accurate.
I'd be interested in the benefit of running Bluedot.

Re: reloading for AR pistol

I have been loading IMR 8208 in mine, same load as for a rifle and it shoots great with it. But i know its not burning all the powder, so im just thinking about a pistol powder for the short barrel. Less powder, less of a fire ball out the barrel. Not really wanting it for subs, just less flash and unburnt powder.

Re: reloading for AR pistol

I played with this idea with in quickload and one combo I wanted to try was a 45gr tsx under IMR 4227. I wouldn't trust any bullet to "fragment" at 7.5" velocities. someone offered me a price I couldn't refuse before I could test this theory.

Re: reloading for AR pistol

Im not going to hunt with this load. Im not looking for a sub load, im just wanting a load to shoot & plink with. Something that uses less powder with the same bang for my buck. Just something over 2000 fps.

Re: reloading for AR pistol

wasn't going to hunt with mine either. had mine as a trunk gun. if your just going to plink and looking for value I think a keg of wc844 would be cheaper than less of a faster powder that may not reliably cycle the gun. my reasoning behind the tsx bullet with imr 4227 was to have a 30 round capable, pdw sized weapon that was legal to carry without paying a $200 tax stamp that could still yeild possible 45 caliber expansion, less muzzle blast and still meet the 12" penetration standard.
