i have a remington 700 aac sd .308 1:10 twist 20 inch barrel.
have some sierra matchking hpbt 168 grain that a buddy gave me. Loaded them with 44.0 grains of varget. winchester brass. cci primers. Was wanting to chrony it but as murphys law came into play the chrony went down upon arriving to range. Any one have a rough chronograph of this load. I went on the middle ground from the hogdon sight but it is from 24 inch barrel. I am figuring my fps around 2577 fps, but that is off the old rule 25 fps loss per 1 inch of barrel. So not sure how accurate that is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say roughly 2650 or better. Don't go by the manuals; they usually understate. Also, there is true no rule of thumb for velocity change with barrel length.

yeah i had heard this rule of thumb but hadn't put alot of faith in it my chrony has always been my guide. I appreciate your help. It is hard finding data for the 20 inch barrel in 1:10 twist.

Should be slightly faster. However, 44.0 varget is a light load for a 168gr bullet. Max per Hodgdon data is 46.0gr @ 2731 from a 24" barrel. My DTA shoots 178 bthp @ 2660 from a 22" barrel using 44.5gr varget.
