Its time to think about relocation as the girl is headed to chriopractic college. Her short list is either san jose or dallas. I would have thought dallas was a slam dunk as it appears more affordable and we both have backgrounds in oil and gas but she is leaning towards San Jose as the school is sports oriented. Anyways we have been to neither city as os yet but if amyone who is familiar with the cities could chime in with any perspectives on the cities it would be appreciated!

Thanks
Kane

Re: Relocation: San Jose or Dallas

Housing and traffic are TERRIBLE in San Jose. State taxes are also quite high in California. Texas has no state taxes but higher property taxes, yet property values are much less overall.

Now San Jose has easier access to a more diverse set of outdoor activities.

If you are not into IT or an engineer then jobs are not as plentiful in San Jose as they are in Dallas.

To be honest it doesn't really matter what school they go too, it is all marketing b.s. by the colleges. Over the course of a persons career what job they get and how much they make has almost no bearing on which college they go to, unless you are talking Ivy League schools which are a in their own little world.

I have worked in both Dallas and San Jose, Dallas is the best choice. I can't think of a good reason to move back to CA, especially the bay area.

I lived for 24 years in California, 16 in the SF area. I can't think of a good reason to move back to CA either. We tell everybody that it is a great place to visit, but a poor place to live. Plus, California is NOT gun friendly at all. Every time I talk to one of my friends that still lives there, all he is does in complain about how bad the laws are.

California native here. Went to University in the bay area. San Jose was a shithole then and is most likely only worse. In fact, California has become even more of a shithole and I wouldn't move back if you paid me.

Dallas has its ups and downs too but Texas is a kick-ass state with much better opportunity both professionally and for recreation.

Dallas.

Parker Chiro is hard to beat, but you'll want to live near Dallas, not in it. Plenty of accessable suburbs to pick from.

Re: Relocation: San Jose or Dallas

I have lived in the Silicon Valley for most of my life. The food is good, the weather is nice, the girls are pretty, but the rest of it sucks. San Jose in particular has gotten a new mayor and chief of police and there has been lots of budget cuts so things are getting worse here.

Houses here cost way too much unless you are willing to commute 2 hours a day in some of the worst traffic ever. Also because of the stupid ass tree huggers we also enjoy higher gas prices on average a dollar more and every year you can enjoy forking over 70 dollars to smog check your car. The only reasons I stay here is because of family and my job industry otherwise I would be chilling in another state with my own backyard rifle range.

I agree with damnyuppie. The college you go to doesn't really matter. My girlfriend went to a prestigious (expensive)private college for nursing but had a hell of a time finding a job. In the end its all about who you know when it comes time to get a job. If you do end up here in San Jose shoot me a pm I'd be glad to show another hide member around.

edit: I forgot to mention there's no chance in hell that the Sheriff for Santa Clara County will issue normal law abiding citizens CCW's

Re: Relocation: San Jose or Dallas

Stay away from San Jose. Mike is right, SJ State and the surrounding area is very bad. Palmer Chiropractic is in the North end of SJ which isn't too bad.

CA is very expensive and the Bay Area is one of the most expensive areas in CA. If you have some specific information your looking for, send me a PM.

Re: Relocation: San Jose or Dallas

i lived in plano(north of dallas) and worked in dallas for about 2years. traffic sucked because im used to small town ohio, but a motorcycle fixed that...30min on bike or 1.5hrs in truck...drive beside cars in traffic jam. only 5-6hrs from the gulf for ocean fishing. i would like to move back there sometime when im retired. the weather was great(2hot sometimes). people i met were friendly. i would definitely learn spanish if i went back. there is always something to do there, bands, sports, motorsports, shootingsports, fine eating, whatever. i have family in The Colony texas west of plano and he really likes it there, its a small community atmosphere.
ive never been to california.

Re: Relocation: San Jose or Dallas

I'd say go with Dallas for all the reasons listed above.

But, the #1 chiropractic school is the one in Iowa, from what I've been told
