any of you shooting a Rem 700 338 Lapua? I see one on guns america for 1600.00 comes with a DBM , 40x trigger, ported & looks to be a steel trigger gaurd, seems like a cheap way to get into a 338 Lapua, if a guy reloaded the catridges are almost affordable, man thats a lot of gun for the money seems to me, only down side I'd need another scope, Im geeting ready to upgrade my 300wm with another 5R 300wm for just a little less than this gun, like the 300wm & 5R concept, but I never knew these 338L were this close in price, any responces appreciated

I believe they are 26" barrels.

Re: Rem 338 lapua

They're advertised as 26" barrels, but from the front of the receiver to the actual muzzle, they're about 23". The short barrel reduces the potential of what the cartridge can really achieve.

Re: Rem 338 lapua

I've reached 2800FPS with 300 grain bullets in my stock barrel, and 2950FPS with 250 grain bullets. Both charges were slightly under max (according to Hodgdon).

Sounds like too much of a deal is being made out of the short barrel; my velocities are perfectly fine

And the gun shoots great!

Re: Rem 338 lapua

338 lapua tends to loose 15ish fps per inch from 30 to 24 inches, its not a big deal.

2800 from a 300g is impressive. About to start loading the bergers for one now, hopefully can get rid of the 3 inch groups it has been shooting with 225 SST's (I think theyre simply too short for the twist)

$1600 is expensive, build a custom if its gonna cost you that much!

Re: Rem 338 lapua

The barrels are advertised at 26" w/the factory brake. Minus the bake they are actually 24.5".

$1600 sounds high to me, mine set me back $1250 with a 20 MOA Badger rail. Couldn't be happier with mine, my 250gr SMK loads are sub-half MOA & averages 2863fps at the muzzle.
