I'm looking for advice on how to proceed with this issue. I purchased a Remington 700 5R Milspec chambered in .308 to be used for ranges where the AR platform leaves off.
I mounted a Badger Ordnance 20 moa rail, M40 ring set and Zeiss glass. Visually I noticed the scope seem to "point" a little to the right. Then, when trying to zero the rifle I used up my windage trying to get it on paper.
Took off the scope and rings and placed a straight piece of round rod stock in the "channel" of the Badger rail, and sure enough, the rod is pointing far right of the line of bore.
The holes seem to be drilled / tapped off center in the receiver.
My question is Should I try to have this "fixed" by Remington? Or should I simply save myself the trouble and get something entirely different. Remington QC has me in doubt at this point. I paid $1100 + tax for this rifle.
What would be the "fix" for this problem even if I spend the time and money to send it back to Remington? Some locals said to shim it, or install a windage adjustable mount. This really does not sound acceptable.
Any feedback or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
